Ch 26 

"NO" Lyn pulled her hand free from Lucas. 

Something was wrong, something inside she had never felt before. A feeling from deep within pulling at her insides, stopping her from taking one more step away from the crash site. There was life inside and Lyn knew it, she had to save it. 

"Lyn come on, we've done, lets set the bomb and go"  

Lucas tried to take her hand again but she couldn't let him so she quickly turned away back towards the Cleaner. She had to hold her ground there was nothing else she could do the life inside had to be saved. 

"Whats wrong?" 

Lucas walked over to Lyn taking her face in his hands and looked down into her dark eyes,. Trying to show, his fear and impatience. she knew he was scared and wanted to get as far from there as he could, but he wouldn't leave her. 

"People" Lyn whispered. 

"What people? The ones inside are all dead" Lucas sounded like he was talking to a small child and it made her mad. 

"NO" Lyn pulled free of Lucas once again and placed her hands on the Cleaner's now dead body.  

What if he dragged her away? Not believing her causing the life inside to die.  

Lyn knew what she felt was right even if it was a feeling she had never felt before, she couldn't leave them to simply die, that would make her no better then Henry the man who designed the Monster to pick up the life and let it die. Soon new Sweepers and Cleaners would arrive to wipe away all that had happened in the past hour, it would be nothing more then a memory in the five minds that survived it. 

"Inside" Lyn looked to Alan as she spoke this time, he would listen. 

"Lyn, are people alive in there?" 

"Alan don't be stupid, no one would be alive in there, we just came from in there, we would have seen them" 

Alan took nothing Lucas had to say in and turned his worried eyes back to Lyn, she knew his trust in her was far greater then anything else, he would help. 

"Can you find life signs in there?" 

"Two" 

"Wait, she can do that?" Lucas seemed to have changed his mind on the matter. Alan's faith in Lyn seemed to make him suddenly believe her words to be that of truth and not that she was just upset over the dead inside. But as Lucas looked back over the Cleaner he and Alan had just come from, there was no possible way back inside now. As the last few sparks flickered over its surface, the mouth they had used to get inside now closed, the last of life from the dying monster was extinguished.  

"She's programed to, I made sure of it" he now spoke to Lyn once again "Where? How far in?" 

Lyn didn't answer right away, the feeling overwhelmed her, she walked over to the Cleaners side and placed her hand on its cold skin, the titanium was colder then the night air, but heat pulsed through her hands with ever heart beat still pumping life through the unconscious bodies inside the metal beast. 

"About five feet, wait" the heart beats were strong but there was something underneath, something Lyn didn't understand. A human heartbeat was slower and not hidden inside another, but this third beat faster then the other two, and it was deep within the beat of another. 

"There are three heartbeats, but I don't understand" 

"What is it?" 

"Ones fast, under another, Alan, what is it?"
