Ch 6
Lyn stepped through the cold steel bunker door and walked the few paces to stand at Lucas's side. The morning was strange, as if de ga vu had just come over her, it was like nothing in her resent memory, but more like a distant thought of one, like something she could almost remember, a place she might have once been, but couldn't quite put her finger on.
"It doesn't feel right, does it?"
Lucas broke Lyn's hard thoughts of trying to place what she was feeling.
"What?" her word was blunt, she was still upset with him and tough she wanted to talk, being asked to, then doing so somehow felt like she was backed into a corner by what the others wanted, weather she wanted it to, or not.
"Outside, morning air, you don't look like its something you remember well, or have even really experienced" Lucas understood her bluntness, so chose to simply take it and carry on.
"Its just odd, worm, and to bright"
"Its summer, winters much worse"
"I spent most of the past six years in that building, then.....then I was that thing an......and.."
"Lyn, you don't have to, if your not ready"
For as much as Lucas wanted Lyn to talk to him, for her to trust him enough to tell him how she felt, not just tell her story as she had done so far like it really wasn't hers and she had little connection to it. He wanted more for Lyn to be ready to do so, and not just talk to him because she knew he wanted to know and felt she had to because there was no one else close enough or who wanted to be close enough to truly listen.
"No, I want to, it helps, but you already know that"
"Okay then, go on"
"When I was that thing, his weapon there was nothing else, just my mission, do what I was programed to do and get back to him or move on to whatever was next. I couldn't feel this and now I don't even know what this is. Outside, inside was all the same what ever was going on around me before I blew New York I don't know, and after I was so consumed by what I had done there was nothing, just nothing.
"The whole time though it was like there was something, someone inside scratching, trying to get out from deep inside"
"You?" Lucas put this across as a question, but he knew inside he really wasn't asking just speaking aloud because he already knew the answer.
"Yes, me. I always clung to something and I think he made me that way so I would brake, so at the loss of one city so many others would survive. I had one thing I could never leT go of I just can't remember what anymore"
Both of them knew she was lying, so they refused to look at each other. From the moment Henry had marked her Lyn had remembered what she needed to, so that the plans of the man who created her could be realized. Lyn now knew if she had returned to 'The Rose Building', to Henry it would have broke her creators heart at the sight of the woman he loved so greatly, the woman who he had put every last ounce of his hope in to still being nothing more then a machine. Lyn would have been forever lost, trapped deep inside or at least that is what he would have believed. But she knew the sight of him would have only made her fight harder to brake free, but in doing so Henry would have know it was down to him that she was not fully his and her creator would have been killed and the world truly lost.
Lucas simply pretended to take Lyn's words as fact even though he knew full well that if it was not just solely him, he was a huge part of what she clung to from her past. The memory of him came back so much faster then he thought it would, even though he had hoped. He was there and amazingly so compared to her old life. It was especially extraordinary next to something so simple as a summer morning, something he and everyone else took so easily for granted.
