Ch 17

Lucas pointed to the steel door, covered lightly by two leaved branches, He knew now he should have hidden their safe hold so much better, he had never been trained to create something so shabby looking. But at the time all he could think about was catching up with Lyn and making sure she didn't get hurt, although even with him there she managed it just fine, and even now she still had not woken.

"Your things will be fine in the cars for now, see to Lyn first, ya?"

Though he asked it as a question, Lucas could tell from the look on Alan's face that it came across as more of a command. Lucas felt slightly bad about it, then even worse as Alan said nothing simply nodding, showing just how used to being constantly told what to do he was.

Lucas couldn't help, but think about how used to getting and giving command he was, but then that was different, he was in the army, it what you signed up for, Alan didn't want to live a life not of his own, always being spoken to like he was little more then Henry's speaking property. Lucas wanted to say something, say it was different now, that he wasn't Henry, and that he was sorry for making him feel pushed around. But he couldn't, Lucas didn't want to bring Henry up, it wouldn't help with the thoughts in Alan's mind of what standing up to Henry would have meant, that Lucas could tell were at the for front of the past few moment. From the moment Lucas had spoken Alan had carried the same silent and worried presence Lyn did when she felt like something had been said, or done as Henry would have done.

Lucas tapped Alan's shoulder causing him to jump nearly a foot in the air "Hay, its okay, just need you to take the torch so I can get Lyn, that's" Alan simply nodded and tried to compose himself as he took hold of the torch "We need to use it to get down the stairs, there;s to doors see, and the light between them doesn't work, so when this door shuts it completely black. Its okay if your alone, I just don't want to trip, not holding her" Alan once again just nodded in reply.

Lucas took one last look around as Alan pried open the bunkers outer door and was thankful that as it was there were no lights where they stood once the cars were turned off, and the moon was nearly lost by autumns clouds, so on the very unlikely chance anyone came close or satellite cameras passed over the cars would be very hard to see, he could find proper cover for them when it got light.

As Alan pushed open the second door and Lucas walked through into the bright light of the bunker corridor he was almost pounced upon, by a waiting Tom and Ash, who only stopped just in time so not to knock Lyn straight from his arms.

"Careful" Lucas snapped, but neither took any notice.

"Here let me take her, I'll make sure they are both just fine" Lucas hardly took in what Tom said, as he gently took Lyn from his arms and walked down the corridor towards her room.

"He's been here since you left, sat, stood, pacing, oh and who's this?" Ash's tone dropped once again, back to his dislike of Lyn tone, as his eyes narrowed and fell upon Alan.

"Don't worry, he's with us now, this is Alan, he's the man who made Lyn, and without him we wouldn't be alive and-"

"Wonderful" Ash quickly brushed Lucas off with a tone of disinterest so he could quickly chang the subject "So did she do it? Did she get what I need?"

"IS THAT ALL YOU ARE ABOUT? THAT THE ONLY REASON YOU WERE WAITING WITH TOM, TO JUMP ON HER AS SOON AS WE WALK THROUGH THE DOOR, TO GET HOLD OF THIS" Lucas pulled the core from a side pocket in his pack. To Lucas it was nothing more then a small silver device almost the shape of and old computer mouse. A section was some sort of glass, which a pale green light shone through, although it had been much brighter when he had taken it from Lyn's hand "SHE NEARLY DIED FOR THIS, and without Alan being there she wouldn't have even had what she needed to kill Mat and get hold of it, but no don't care, just take it and build your bomb, maybe then you can redeem yourself" Lucas then thrust the core at Ash, turned his head away until he felt it slip from his grasp and could hear Ash's foot steeps running down the corridor. As Lucas turned to Alan, Ash's foot steps grew louder once again.
