Ch 11

Lucas grabbed hold of his bag it was it time to move again. Lyn had moved them five times in the six weeks since her last harsh words to him in the corridor and no matter how hard he tried whether it be about what Lyn had said or something much more trivial she had suddenly gone into a one word answer mode yet worse then she ever had been before. Since then life had been more then simply boring nothing but dark, damp or dusty bunkers, few real food to eat as they couldn't stay long enough to set up proper traps or find a bunker that still had a freezer that work so they could catch something big, even if they had too leave it.

So food was now what Lyn could easily and them or what tins and packets they could find in the bunkers. Then apart from searching the rooms for items they might there was nothing to do but wait. Lucas knew he needed a plan, a way of getting him and Lyn somewhere safe. Lyn though wanted to stop Henry but he had no idea how to do that so all he could hope was that she would think of something and they could stop walking down what felt like a path straight into Henry's hands no matter how long they may try and stay out of sight, something need to happen, and soon.

it was for no other reason that Lyn was now talking to him, then to tell him the Sweepers were close, and they may have only just got there the night before, they needed to move, Lucas didn't mind, at least they were words in his direction.

The new bunker smelled of dust and damp more then he thought possible and though he had many times smelled worse he couldn't stand the thought of being trapped down there for to long.

Lucas had barely taken in most of Lyn's words wile he watched her pace slowly in front of him wile he quickly shoved what he had taken out of his pack back in. She looked tired and he knew she hadn't slept, Lyn must have been waiting hours to wake him, but there also seemed to be more on her mind.

"Lyn, are you okay?" Lucas was sure as with all his questions that she would give little him response, but this time, the first time in weeks, she stopped, turned to face him, then sat on the floor at his feet looking up into his dark eyes. Lucas knew she wanted to talk, but it seemed as if she just didn't know how.

"I....I'm sorry" Lucas knelt at her side, he decided to speak first, there was so much he wanted, needed to say, but that was all that came out he just hoped for now it was enough. She simply smiled and lied her head on Lucas's lap.

"Somethings wrong" even her voice now seemed tired, so Lucas gently pulled her up to look at him.

"What?" he knew it sounded stupid, but again nothing else would come and after all it was and honest question.

"Inside, like everything isn't connected wright, like when I was switched back on not everything came back. When I stopped you and Ash it was something I couldn't control, but I know I used to be able to and there's so much more that I feel should be there I just don't know what it is" her face was expressionless but he knew she wanted some sort of help. What was he meant to do though, the first time she talked to him in weeks and it had to be about something he had no idea how to fix.

"I know you can't fix it, I just needed you to know, there;s something else too"

Lucas nodded for her to go on "Somethings different inside me, I don't think its bad, I just don't know what it is, I threw up this morning too"

"Well I told you not to eat those berries"

"I couldn't let Tom do it, they wont kill me, but if they were poisonous they could have killed him in hours, there nothing we could have done" she was right even though he didn't want to confirm it, in fact if any of them got sick or hurt bad enough to need real help there would be nothing any of them could do before they died.
