Ch 16

Alan slowed at the edge of the blast zone and pulled sharply into the front of a blown out shop window.

"What are you doing? We have to get back, she needs Tom to look at her"

"She's fine" Alan's lack of concern worried Lucas, he tried to say nothing about it, he was there quickest way back to the safety of the bunker, but he couldn't hold his tongue.

"Look no offense, but your not actually a doctor, he is and I want him to tell me shes fine"

"Well, I would like to get you there with out being tracked or hunted down" Alan's voice was harsh and stern yet still very calm, if that was possible, making Lucas feel for the first time in many years like a small boy being shouted at by his teacher "So if you'll let me explain without any more complaint then we can get her back much quicker"

Lucas felt bad so he simply nodded feeling even more like a little boy in doing so wile looking down at his hands that in the darkness he couldn't even see.

"Right then there's a body in my trunk, I need your help with it. I need to make it look like I was caught in that blast so I'm going to put the body here which now has my DNA then torch the car. Down there" Alan pointed to an ally next to the shop "There is an underground car park kept separate from the labs, it belongs to Henry and inside are about 50 black untraceable Land Rovers that he's so fond of every one having, we can't keep this car its being tracked. If you drive one I'll take another, we shouldn't need to worry about him finding two gone, anyone who works for him has access, his people take them all the time. This way it will be easier for us to move her when needed and every one else. So if all that is okay with you get her and help me get the bags and boxes out then we can go"

"Wait, stop" Lucas pulled Alan back by his sleeve so he couldn't get out of his car, to look at him once again "There's a body in your trunk? Where did you get a body from? And how do you plan on making out its you? If he can make her, he'll be able to check"

"Calm down son, for one thing, I've been here for days if you look hard enough someone's always dieing" Alan looked away as if somehow in his own mind he was trying to justify actions he had no choice but to take, even though they would haunt him forever "And I made Lyn, not him, I also helped with most of his others toys, as well, so if anyone can fool Henry and the others he has working for him, its me, hurry up so we can get her back, yes?"

"Ya fine" Lucas got out, pulled Lyn into his arms and followed Alan down the narrow alley where he had only minutes beforehand pointed.

The cold air had quickly filled with the smell of the burning buildings only streets away, and the wind blew ash and wisps of smoke around, eager to land upon the ground, but each new gust sending them higher into the dark star filled sky.

Alan stood and waited at the very end of the alley where Lucas assumed a door must be, though there had been nothing, but brick walls on both sides of the chipped concrete path so far.

"Hurry we don't have long, before the Sweepers and Cleaners arrive"

Lucas didn't speak, he just simply nodded, and ran the last few steps to stand next to the man who had created the woman he now loved.

By that time Alan had already punched in what ever code it took to open a black metal door concealed well within the bricks and begun to push it slowly open. There was no light inside, until the door shut firmly behind them, then just like magic, cold pale blue lights flicked on in rows along the ceiling.

Alan seemed to know exactly which two cars he wanted, so Lucas followed as they walked quickly past rows of black Land Rovers, accompanied only by the noise of their boots bouncing off the four thick concrete walls. Alan stopped in front of the last two that were parked next to a set of large black metal doors, also asking for a code to allow entry or exit.
