Ch 19

Tom stood at the kettle sorting out five mugs for tea he didn't turn as the kitten door opened he could tell by the lack of foot steps that it was Lyn, she was the only one who didn't permanently have a pair of boots on. She came to his side and with out a word he helped her up to sit on the unit.

"You know, I was going to bring this to you"

"Well I have legs and I know how they work"

"Lucas wont be happy to see you out of bed, you only got kicked across a room two nights ago, you could have lost that baby and you've already been up earlier because of Ash blowing his room up"

"Well I didn't, and I'm fine, and so is he, and it wasn't like Lucas was going to do anything to help Ash, he and Alan just stood there, watching the smoke, hows Ash?"

"Oh its a he is it?"

"Well the others were, but Lucas thinks its a girl" she took her tea from Tom's out stretched arm "Thanks"

"Well for now you need to rest, you've done all you can for now, Ash will be fine, nothing more then a burn to his hand and a bad knock to the head, he didn't remember until he nearly passed out earlier. He got thrown against the wall, that's why he was on the floor and just crawled under the bed, but in a few days, he'll be able to use his hand a better, it not as bad as we first thought, so we just have to live with him complaining until then, anyway when he is okay leave things to him and Alan unless they need you, okay"

"You like him, don't you?" she gave him her cheeky little smile for the first time in days and then accompanied it with a little cheeky wink he'd never seen.

"Don't be silly, and don't change the subject, get back to bed before Lucas finds you" he smiled as blood started to rush to his face.

"He already has" they both turned to find Lucas stern faced in the kitchen door way, both smiles now wiped from theirs faces. Lyn picked up a mug and held it out, but Lucas ignored her gesture "five minutes, that,s how long I leave you for, and your gone, all you had to do was wait until tomorrow, Tom would check you out, and we could go from there, you couldn't wait one more day?" his voice steadily got louder as he went on "That's my baby too. I wont have you, or it get hurt because you can't just rest for a few days. BED NOW" Lucas pointed to the door.

Lyn didn't speak, just slammed the mug down on the surface sending tea splashing everywhere, jumped from the unit with as much force as she could, almost falling to the floor as she did so, and stormed from the kitchen, pushing Lucas harshly, to get to the door, which she made sure to open with great effort, so that it hit him, then she ran off down the corridor.

"Well, way to piss her off, Lucas" Tom had now pulled a cloth from a drawer and was wiping up Lyn's mess.

"What would you like me to do?"

"Not treat her like that, like she's human, because she's not really, which means if she says she and the baby are okay, then she's right. Look, your my friend, I know how you feel about her, but its not like you've told her, I know you tried to, but you didn't explain everything, or even actually say 'I love you' now did you. She will be pissed with you and has every right, she loves you, but she's not going to let you acted like you have all these rights over her, or the baby, even though it is yous, if your only going to act like the baby is all you care about and the only reason your even trying to look after her is because of it. Then once its born she wont matter, you can get rid of the walking incubator and take your kid"

"Is that what you think?"

"No, not what I think, I know how you feel, you just don't have the balls to truly say sorry and tell her the truth, stop caring about what people might think on the outside, they don't really matter. Her and that baby are your family now, and you know that you've never told her that. what were you doing after you brought her back? she thought everything was fine, then after a day you start behaving like this. Sadly that's what Lyn thinks and that's what matters, you two were getting on great again until a few days ago"

"Ya well a few days ago I didn't know I was going to be a father, yet you did, what was wrong with telling me. Anyway things are fine, shes let me back in her room, were talking things wiill get better"

"I only knew because I worked it out, and she wouldn't tell you, because you threw her away after one night, she believed you would only want her because of the baby, not because you actually really do want her. then you go and act like you do, then change your mind again, for God sake man you've had long enough to sort it out, she wont wait forever and anyway-"

at that point the kitchen door burst open and a harassed Ash ran through holding a small piece of pink paper "Lucas, she's gone"

"What?" Lucas turned on the spot to see Ash, waving the scrap of paper and noticed just how far he had traveled across the kitchen from where he was when Lyn had stormed out, and was thankful to Ash for his intrusion, not only to announce Lyn's departure, but also in no more then two or three more steps he would have been close enough to Tom to hit him for what he said, though it was the truth.

"I tried to stop her, I saw her leaving with her pack, but she electrocuted me, came to on the floor next to the exit door, but she was already gone"

Lucas didn't think he and Tom had been alone that long, but then in his growing anger he had taken no notice of the time, or even thought about what Lyn might be doing. He then ran full pelt to the outer door, it was closed and blocked from the outside.

"She's gone"

"I tried, but, but I... I-" Ash and Tom had run out behind him

"She blocked it" Lucas turned, heart shattering in his chest "WHAT DD SHE SAY?" he shouted.

For the first time he saw fear in his friends eyes, they clearly thought he would do something stupid, if they said the wrong thing. Lucas slid to the floor, and even though his friends were stood over him he didn't care, he began to cry.

Lucas new she may never be coming back and there was no one else at fault but him, he loved her more then anyone, and now he understood just how bad he made her feel. Lucas didn't ever want to have walked away from what they could have had right from the start. Tom was right he was more concerned about what people who didn't know her, or understand what she had done. or been through would think and say.

Now all he wanted was her back and them to be a family, with their baby. Thoughts raced through Lucas clouding his mind, with images he couldn't stand. The thought of Lyn being alone out there, what if he never found her? What is she had to have the baby alone and bring it up alone? What would she say when the day came that their child asked about him? he couldn't see her tell them he was a wonderful person, because right now that simply wasn't the truth, he was a terrible person, and that's just what she would tell it.

"She'll be back, she said so"

"What?" Lucas looked up, tears still streaming down his face and blurring his vision, to find both Ash and Tom still there, but now knelt by his side. Ash's words gave him the greatest gift of all, hope, hope that he could find a way to fix what he'd done, and although his heart throbbed with every beat, it now felt as if some bandage, a bandage of hope was holding the shattered peaces together. The bandage may have been thin and simple, but it was all Lucas had, so it just had to be strong enough to last.

"She gave me this" Ash showed Lucas the piece of pink paper which now he could see was covered in about six different codes, and at least ten pass words which he didn't understand "There to contact her with, but she said only to do it once the bomb is ready, then she'd be back to sort it out, she said she'd be leaving again after words, but maybe if you can talk to her, then she might stay"

"Why can't you just use them now?"

"I can, but she wont come, and she wont answer, at least leave it for a few days, shes really pissed. What did you do? Um............. look what she did to me and that's not like her" Ash held out his arm and showed both Tom and Lucas a part ring of burnt skin around his wrist, clearly from were she must have grabbed him and sent an electric shock through his body knocking him out.

"I need to fix this now, what if she stays way so long she doesn't want to come back? What if she wont listen? What if by then she stops loving me?"

"Somehow how I find that doubtful" Tom then helped Lucas to his feet "come on, I'll worm your tea and bandage Ash's wrist, then we can try and sort something out, we can't have you walking around here like this, you just look pathetic"
