Chapter One

It was a fine summer day without a single cloud in the sky.  The heat seemed to suck the energy from one's body and it made all seem dreary.  It was the perfect weather for a nap.

In the nice little street were large extravagant houses with well-kept yards.  Some houses had neat little picket fences, painted a blinding white; others had well planned flowerbeds, with flowers in almost any color imaginable in them.

The cars were neatly tucked away in the garages and nothing littered the scene.

It would have been picture perfect had there not been that one house near the end of the street.  It was large, dark and its presence seemed to be looming over the neighborhood, almost seeming hungry.

This warm day was a Sunday and the streets were almost completely empty, but for what appeared to be three boys, who were standing on the sidewalk, immersed in a pointless argument.

“You're such a baby!  I bet you wouldn't even make it halfway out into the yard!” the tallest boy said.

He was around fifteen and had dark brown chestnut hair.  His eyes were a bright green, unusually bright at that. His features were odd and shapeless in a way.  There was a bright spark in his eyes that meant trouble, but beyond that first spark was something else.  A sort of knowledge that even he himself was not aware he had.

“You bet I could!” the girl said angrily, standing on her toes to try and be closer to the dark haired boy's height.

She was unusually short for her age, which had to be close to the ages of those boys.  She could have been easily mistaken for a boy from afar, but closer it became obvious she was a girl.  She had soft features and was quite skinny.  She had very short and messy dark blonde hair.  It curled up pleasantly at the ends though; showing that it was naturally curly and if it were longer one would recognize it better.

Her eyes were a stormy gray and a fire burnt in them.  Quite an enthusiastic one at that, the kind that was dangerously unstable and could go out if not tended to.  To sum it up, it was an obvious sign of her being a troublesome person.  She also was dressed as a boy.

The girl was standing on her toes, frowning at the tall boy and having her hands on her hips, glaring at him.

She had a flustered look on her face, and from this the tall boy took a step back, losing his balance momentarily and almost falling over.  He caught himself in the last moment however.

The other boy burst out laughing.

“This is too much-” he exclaimed, going red in the face from lack of air.

He shared a resemblance to the girl.  The only big differences were that he was quite a bit taller than the girl and the look in his eyes.

The second boy's hair was only a fraction of a shade lighter than the girl's and that was hard to notice.  He had a lot of freckles, as did the girl, but not quite as many and he had an inquisitive look in his eyes.  A thirst for knowledge, yet apprehensive at the same time.  His eyes were cloudy, undecided in a way.

He wore glasses, but still had to squint in the sun.  He had to push hem up his nose at regular intervals since his nose was sweating in the sun.  It annoyed his parents, but his friend and cousin couldn’t care less.

It had just become habit for him, so he didn’t notice it half the time anymore.  His cousin said he looked badass with them, and the thought always made him laugh.
