Chapter Thirty-Nine
“I swear I’ll kill him, but how...?” Areli paced back in forth in front of Perdita’s bed. She had passed out from the smoke and had not woken since.
For almost two days Perdita had remained asleep, and in that time Areli had not slept nor eaten much.
“Why I bet that asshole knew what that smoke would do to a normal human... damn him....” Areli muttered on.
“Mwah, fluffy,” Perdita muttered in her sleep. She had done so a few times, and each time Areli thought she had woken, but had found her still sleeping deeply.
“Fluffy cake... no Markl-poo... mine... give me mwah,” Perdita grumbled, hugging her pillow tight as she turned to her other side.
“Mwah, Markl bastard... no sticking head over... hurt... asshole... taking advantage of... sleeping... mwah cake... yummy... I could eat... you... buckets... bastard....” Perdita mumbled on, at one point gnawing on her pillow.
Areli paused his pacing for a moment to stare at her sleeping figure, wondering what was going on through that head of hers. He made a mental note to ask her who Markl was when she woke up... that was if she woke up.
Areli sighed. He was tired, but did not want to risk sleeping if Jakko were to show up again, so he thought a cool shower might help wake him. Since Perdita was asleep he did not think it would hurt to use her bathroom. Humming the tune she had sung two nights before--before Jakko had turned up-- he got into the shower.
“Fwah, fwah, fluffy....” Perdita dreamt on, rolling over again, dangerously close to the edge of the bed. She had the habit or turning in her sleep, and occasionally she still-
thud-
still fell out of bed.
“Ouch,” Perdita woke when she hit the hard ground, rubbing her sore elbow, which she had landed particularly hard on.
Her head was still fuzzy with sleep, and she felt she had remembered something important, but couldn’t tell what exactly what it was.
Hearing the water in the bathroom running, Perdita rubbed her eyes, wondered if she had forgotten to close the tap of the sink, and stepped into the bathroom, tugging the long shirt she had slept in down, confused when she saw the sink was not running.
“Did I leave the shower running?” Perdita thought out loud, realizing it would be the only thing capable of making such loud spattering noises with the water. The shower curtains were pulled shut and she nearly tripped over a towel on the floor.
“Who put that there?” Perdita wondered, still too drunk with sleep to realize something was up.
“I’ll just turn off the water and go back to sleep-“ Perdita almost sang.
Areli had frozen beneath the shower. Shit, she woke up. He had believed she would sleep longer.
“Don’t open that!” he finally spoke out, pulling the shower curtains closer to the wall. Perdita had barely touched the shower curtains and jumped in surprise when there was a yell.
“Areli? No, Jakko? Is that you bastard Jakko?” Perdita asked, her expression becoming dark. “I still need to pay you back for last night, and now you bastard, you’re bathing in my bathroom? Now this is perfect, I can get you into some deep shit with this,” she cackled, cracking her knuckles.
