Chapter Twenty-Nine
“And around and around they go!” the white haired girl sang as she spun around in circles. Her dress flew around her, her voice echoing eerily. She hugged a ragged old stuffed rabbit to her chest.
“Silly, silly little people-” she went on singing, the only sound in the room her voice and the clicking of her shoes on the checkered tile floor.
She was in the room where the great table was, and those strange shelves lined the walls. Her guests had long since left, but Alice was preparing for what she believed would be some “good quality entertainment” which typically involved something to draw out a person she truly despised.
“I hope Mr. Flannel finishes soon, don’t you too, Mimi?” she asked the white stuffed rabbit in her arms, not receiving an answer, but smiling as if she had heard the best news in the world.
“Oh, I do agree, he should be ready soon, right?” Alice stopped her spinning to steady herself.
“Let’s check in on Mr. Flannel, shall we?” she asked the doll, pausing a moment as if to listen to its response before skipping over to the table on which a big basin full of a clear jellylike substance.
Alice placed the stuffed rabbit next to the stone basin and prodded the mass with her hand, only for it to spring back as soon as she pulled back.
“Mr. Flannel,” Alice called into the springy mass. “Are you there?”
A mist seemed to form inside the blob and then cleared away, leaving the image of the man’s office lingering in it. Nothing moved in the picture, but there was noise in the background.
“Coming- ah, Miss Alice,” the man’s face appeared in Alice’s blob. “Miss Alice, does something plague your mind?”
“Why no Mr. Flannel, I was only curious as to find out when your plans will be set into action,” Alice grinned.
“As soon as possible Miss Alice, but there’s that little issue with a certain someone... it seems he and his other half are planning something,” Mr. Flannel answered darkly.
“May I have the permission to dispose of them?” he asked.
“Only if there is no other option. Try and keep them alive... make it painful for them. Who knows, we might get lucky this time and have both halves of that thing around to finally get rid of....” she giggled, her lips curling up at the ends, sending a shiver up the Headmaster’s spine.
“Thank you Alice,” he nodded. “I will do my best to entertain you, and I’ll alert you before I set the plans in motion. I only need one more thing for them after all.”
“Really?” Alice clapped her hands together gleefully. “Wonderful,” she giggled.
“May I be excused Miss Alice? I have work to do.”
“Why yes, take your time,” Alice giggled. “But not too much time... now go and finish your work!”
“Yes Miss Alice,” the man nodded his head respectfully and disappeared from the view of the blob-screen.
Alice giggled and prodded the blob again, grinning as it spring back beneath her fingers.
“Boing, boing, boing, boing, boing!” she squealed as she prodded the mass.
“Boing... booooorrrrinnnnng!” she sighed. “When will it start? Mimi? So you know?” she asked her doll, staying silent as she waited for the answer that would never come.
