Henry made his way to the familiar home. It was a beautiful lavish home in the Hollywood hills. He was a frequent visitor, punching the code that opened the gated house. Zayra looked at him surprised. She wondered who her foster family was going to be. They drove around the U shaped driveway, parking his vehicle close to the entrance.
A lady about the same age as her mother had been walked out with a boy her age. She smiled at them kindly. The boy smiled at Henry and looked at Zayra intently. Assessing her. Zayra began to feel uncomfortable with them. They were nicely dressed, typical happy family. It made her stomach squeezed at her loss.
"Zayra, I want you to meet Emily and Joshua."
She followed him up the stairs where they waited to welcome them. Zayra pulled on her bag. She only had a small tote bag and a backpack of belongings left. Everything else was gone. She bit at her lip.
"Zayra this is Emily and Joshua Hirsch."
They smiled at her kindly. "Welcome Zayra." she stood a good distance away. Zayra only nodded.
"Joshua, can you show Zayra where to put her stuff?"
"Yes grandpa."
Zayra looked at Henry. "Oh I guess I didn't mention this, but Emily is my daughter and Joshua is my grandson. You're in good hands Zayra." he smiled with his eyes.
"Come, I'll show you your room, then I'll give you a tour of the house." Joshua extended his hand for her to follow. She hesitated, she didn't take his hand but made a move toward him.
Joshua shrugged unfazed by it. He walked her toward the staircase. "So um Zayra...How old are you?"
"16"
"Oh wow like me! Well I'll be 17 in a few months. Dad says he'll take me to N.Y for my birthday." he said excitedly.
She didn't answer.
"Maybe you can join us." he had decided to like Zayra.
"I guess." she said nonchalant. He opened the second door to the left. It was spacious.
"This is your room." he walked in and he showed her the jack and jill bathroom they would both be sharing. Zayra placed her bags on the bed. She looked around the room. It was really nice, their whole house was from what she gathered was nice.
"Come, I'll show you the house before you rest." he waited for her by the door.
Zayra quietly followed him, showing her his bedroom, his parents master suite was on the other side of the floor. The house had four bedrooms, an office space, a pool, a large dinning and family room. A spacious living room and her favorite part was the studio. He opened it hesitantly, she walked in and felt that familiar pull. There were many instruments inside the room. Toward the back of the room was another door that led to the sound room.
She turned to him puzzled.
"this is my dad's studio, he doesn't like us being in here when he's away. He'll be back in a week, you'll meet him then." she looked around the room, touching some of the instruments. A sad melancholy touching her heart.
"Who's your dad?" she finally spoke.
"Oh. Didn't grandpa tell you? He's Jeremy Hirsch the famous producer."
Zayra made a face, she didn't know who he was.
"You've never heard of him?" he walked back into his studio and showed him the wall of plaques. He began to tell him a little of the work he had done. Zayra did recognize many of the songs he had produced. She smiled at his excitement. He was proud of his dad.
