*****NOT EDITED*****
True to his word, Roman visited Zayra daily. He stood with her for a few hours a day. What ever time was given for visitors he would stay. Sometimes, other's would come and visit her but she'd get overwhelmed and would tell them to get out.
She still had some outbursts and at night she would cry herself to sleep, yet Dr. Rose saw some changes in her. She watched how Roman would deal with her, how she would at times let herself be touched by him. On Friday before he visited Zayra, she asked to speak with him for a few minutes.
Roman walked inside and sat down on the chair facing her. He was curious at what she had to say to him.
She sat gracefully down. "Thank you for seeing me Roman, I know that today is your last day in Los Angeles and need to catch a flight so I will not take much of your time."
"That's fine Doctor. I'm hoping to be back before the month ends. If not, I'll definitely be here for her court date."
"Well she will need a lot of support that day. But that's not what I want to speak with you about." She looked at him seriously. "So Roman, I just want to talk to you about your relationship with Zayra. Can you explain it to me?"
"I plan on marrying Zayra when she's old enough. Of course I'm hoping she gets well first." He didn't hesitate.
She nodded.
"How long have you two been dating?"
"It'll be a year in August."
She nodded, looking at him over.
"Now I know you've known Zayra for a long time. Were you guys always friends?"
He shook his head and gave her a small smile. "No." he knew where she was going with this. Zayra was a minor and he was 21.
"How did your relationship change?"
He had an introspective look on him, "Well, I've always loved Zayra, I can't remember exactly when it happened but it did. I don't know what made Zayra change her mind exactly, suddenly she wasn't as hostile towards me, she tried to be nicer and from there it just...changed." he rubbed his chin.
"So she was never "nice" to you?"
"No way. Since I can remember we've fought like cats and dogs. Always. She's very difficult at times as you've seen."
"But you've managed to deal with her somehow."
"Yes. I guess I've always had some type of patience with her."
"It's more than patience Roman." she sighed. "You know, she's under age and I don't condone your relationship with her" she saw his eyes narrow so she quickly continued. "What I mean as a Doctor, I see my underage patient with an older man and it makes me wonder what exactly it is about her that makes you seek her out." She tapped her fingers on the table.
"I've watched you two together and I do see the love Roman. I see that she responds to you more so that anyone else I've seen. But she's ambivalent about getting better. I think she tries to because of you. I don't think she would be trying if it weren't for you. So I guess, what I'm trying to say is that, she has some sort of dependency on you."
"We have it for each other."
She nods. "My problem is if and when you're not able to be there or decide not to be there, will she regress and go back to square one? Yet, I can't help but think that with your help she will get better. I'm torn in this." she clasped her hands on the table. "I've noticed everyone around her is aware of your relationship with her and I don't see them having a problem with it and I shouldn't either, I suppose, given your past history with Zayra." She sighed. "Tell me Roman, what is it about Zayra that is so appealing to you that you can't find in someone else closer to your age?"
