Mr. Christensen watched Zayra play Ave Maria on the piano. He heard her voice lifting up in the air. She sang it in the key of Ab. He closed his eyes. The Latin version of the Ave Maria is now so frequently used with Schubert's melody that it has led to the misconception that he originally wrote the melody as a setting for the Ave Maria.

This was the rendition she used now.

Her voice was something spectacular to hear. He was disappointed that she had missed her window for Julliard. He had spoken with a few of his friends about her. He even sent them a link from a few performances he's had her do for the school. Everyone was excited to meet her.

The next plan of action was for prom. They requested he get a few of the students to do a few songs during the event. He even booked Ryan and his band. He saw their performances, heard the kids at school talk about them.

He saw their progress and potential. He looked at Zayra and knew it was because of her. He saw Thomas standing by the piano staring at her in awe. A few of his students stopped what they were doing and did the same. All stood watching her play.

Zayra was unaware of the stares. She played and sang with her eyes closed. She didn't know why she played or sang this song. She just thought about her mom and then the funeral her upcoming birthday and then this song just flowed through her.

She heard the applause before she opened her eyes, bringing her back to reality. She smiled shyly and saw Mr. Christensen's proud face.

She shook her head. He still pushed her to enter Julliard. Sure the window for this year was closed but there was always next year. He knew she'd be accepted.

He made her promise that when she went to New York she call him so that he could make an appointment with the Chair of Piano Productions and some of his old colleges. She said yes just to make him stop.

Angie walked in with her bass, ready for practice. Zayra was waiting for Daniella to scoop them up. Ryan had already left with Josh.

"Damn girl, your fucking voice gives me goose bumps."

"Yes it does." Thomas beamed at her.

She shrugged. She saw Mr. Christensen walk to them.

"Zayra, so have you decided? Will you perform at prom? Just a couple of songs. I'd love to see you and Thomas do something special. It is your guy's last year."

She looked at Thomas who looked like he'd pass out if she said no.

"Yes, I'll do it. Thomas, we'll meet here after spring break so that we can start working on something or do you have some ideas already?" she looked at his face. "You already have ideas don't you, sneaky thing." she said in jest.

"Oh Zayra, my mind is on 24/7. Of course I thought of somethings. I'm not sure of course, but yes, let's meet up after spring break." his eyes danced with happiness.

"There you see Mr. Christensen. You happy?"

"Very." he nodded.

Zayra, walked away to grab her things. Saying goodbye to everyone in the room. She walked out of class with Angie.

"So are you taking Roman?" Angie changed the guitar to her other hand. She was talking about prom.

"No, he can't go. I'm taking Nico though."

"Cool. I think I might just take Josh." she made a face.

"Really why?"

"Well because." she sighed. "He's playing with us at Prom, I might as well take him. Besides I'll feel comfortable taking a friend. No pressure."
