****NOT EDITED*****

Joel watched Zayra working out with the group. She was getting stronger physically but emotionally she was still struggling.

They warned him she was crazy.

She wasn't crazy.

She wasn't fooling him. Maybe herself and the others around her but no not him.

No he saw her sane, too smart for her own good but definitely not crazy.

He saw her staring at him, her eyes narrowing every time he smiled at her.

He was waiting for his chance but she didn't give him one.

Not yet.

He told everyone they were done and saw them filing out so that they can get ready for therapy.

He wiped his face with the towel and looked at the calendar.

6 months.

She had been with them 6 months and nothing.

She was stubborn as hell, prideful and very combative.

Well, she had to stay at this facility for at least a year. At this rate, he wondered when she'd get it together and leave.

He had to finally step in.

"Zayra, I think I'll try something different with you. I've noticed you haven't been responding to any of the treatments here. I know you've been requesting medicine but I don't think you need medicine, I think you just want to abuse drugs."

"Well let me abuse drugs. I'm emotionally handicapped." she tapped her head.

Dr. Rose gave her a small smile.

"Zayra, what are your goals for the coming year?"

"My goals?" she laughed. "My goals are to get the fuck out of here."

"How do you plan on doing that?"

"Well....my original plan was to escape but I see that Don Xavier was right...you guys keep us in a tighter leash than dogs in heat."

This time Dr. Rose smiled wide. "Well, he's warned everybody about your Houdini antics."

"I don't see how that's any relevance to anyone here, including you."

"Well it's our job to care for you and look out for you."

She laughed shaking her head.

"What's so funny?"

"I just think you're wasting your time on me. I don't want to get better."

"You don't want to get better or you don't think you deserve to get better."

She saw the fire spark in Zayra's eyes.

Finally, she wanted to raise her hands in triumph.

"Shut up Dr. Rose."

Well that was progress...

Roman saw his Uncle getting ready to leave on his trip. He had heard him speak with his godmother about visiting Zayra after Xmas. This year the circle who joined them yearly for Xmas was much smaller.

Aida and her family weren't invited this year, for obvious reasons. Diego spent it with Angie and her family and Daniella spent it with Nico. And as for well Zayra....Zayra was gone.

"I know you're going to go see her...Can you please just give her this?" he handed his godfather a letter.

He sighed, looked at Roman's eyes full of a pleading sadness. "Okay but I can't guarantee that she'll accept it."
