*****NOT EDITED*****
Zayra woke up to find the baby gone. She quickly shot up and began to look at her surroundings. She sighed as she remembered where she was at. She stretched, decided to take a shower and at least look presentable. She knew everyone would be home. It was the same as always. Sometimes, they'd stay at Don Xavier's house for weeks and months.
She finished getting ready and heard one of the staff members outside of her room.
"Senorita, I have unpacked your clothes, they are all downstairs waiting for you." Mimi said as she continued to put things away in their place. Mimi was 10 years her senior and had worked at the home since she was about Zayra's age. Her mother was one of the main cooks her father was Mario their personal driver.
"Gracias Mimi." she decided on jean shorts and a peasant shirt. It was a hot day. Zayra looked at the time and saw she had slept for over 5 hours. That had been a first in a long time. Everyone knew she suffered from insomnia. If she managed to sleep for over 5 hours, it was a miracle. She made her way downstairs where she heard the familiar voices laughing.
She followed the noise to the back of the house, where they sat on a table overlooking the crystalline pool and picturesque mountains.
"Zayra! Mija." Dona Lourdes stood quickly to embrace her.
Zayra stiffly returned her hug. She smiled politely before retreating to a safe distance. If Lourdes noticed this she didn't say anything. She knew that Zayra wasn't fond of embraces.
"Holla Dona Lourdes, thank you for having us here in your home." she said in Spanish.
She waived her hand, dismissing it. "I've told you many times, this is also your home." she looked at her eyes with sincerity.
Zayra bit her lip and nodded. There was no way she'd get used to that type of reception. It made her highly uncomfortable.
"Come sit, I'm sure you're hungry." She led her to the table where a buffet of food was laid out in the large Andean Mohena wood.
She sat nearby her sister who played with the baby. Julian smiled at her as she sat across from him. She looked around and smiled at Don Xavier and Enrique and narrowed her eyes at Roman.
"Zayra I hope you rested well." Enrique inquired.
"I did thank you." she turned to her sister. "Where's mom?"
"She's still sleeping, Dona Lourdes gave her pain medicine and she fell back to sleep."
She remembered about the babies fever. "Dona Lourdes, Lily has a fever, do you have or do you know where I can get medicine for her?"
"I've already sent for the doctor, he should be here shortly." she smiled.
They all looked at her as if she was a new specimen. She bowed her head and began to slowly eat her food. Everyone continued with their conversation, occasionally asking Zayra questions, trying hard to coax her into their conversation. After she was done eating she asked to be excused and went to check on her mother.
She ran up to her room and saw her mother sitting by the window.
"Ama? How are you feeling?"
She smiled and stretched her arms out to her. "Better. Come." She tried to have her sit on her lap as when she was a child but the pain made it worse.
Zayra sat in a nearby chair. It had been many months since she last saw her mother sober. Her face was still swollen but her face still held the beauty under the bruises.
