I walk to the kitchen and stand at the island with my finger hovering over my dad's contact number. I hear the front door open and then close. I walk to the living room and watch his white and black jag pull out of the drive way.

I finally decide to call my dad. After a few rings, he finally picks up.

"Hey sweetheart."

"Hey daddy." I sigh and he can automatically sense something's wrong.

"What's wrong baby girl?"

"Everything daddy. I called off the engagement with Colin, and I'm moving out."

"What happened, Aaliyah?"

"That's not even important, dad. It's not what I called you for. I need help...at least until I can get a job and get on my feet."

"I'll make some calls and try and get you an apartment. Where at? In Santa Clara or Atlanta?"

He would suggest that.

"Here. I could be terrible and take the kids away from him, but I won't do that."

"Okay. I'll try to have something for you in the next few days, a week at the latest. Where are you staying now."

"Probably a hotel until you find something for me."

"Let me know which hotel you find and I'll call to get the room booked."

"You don't have to do all that."

"I know that. But you're still my daughter, and no matter how old you get, I'm always gonna be there for you."

"Thanks daddy. I love you."

"I love you too." We hang up I put my head in my hands and cry even when I shouldn't be. But I gave this man everything, and this hurts. Heart break would be an understatement.

I take this opportunity, while Colin's gone to pack any and everything that I came into this relationship with. I don't need anything from him, and I'm not gonna allow him to believe that I need anything from him. I don't even need him to help with Riley and Nate but that's not the type of guy he is, and as long as the love for his children doesn't change, that's all that matters.

I go to the kid's rooms and quietly pack clothes. I don't pack it all, but I pack enough. I called Jaid to come over so that when Riley and Nate finally wake up, I can go get a rental car since the cars that I drove are Colin's. She comes over before they wake up and I explain everything from top to bottom.

"Aaliyah, you don't deserve this, and he doesn't deserve a good woman like you."

"I know."

"Good, I'm glad you do. And you're not doing anything wrong with taking your kids, not matter what that fool says. He can come see them when he's not at practice or out of town."

"I just really thought he was passed all this shit. I mean we haven't been perfect, we've had small arguments and shit followed, by bomb ass make up sex." I quickly throw in. "But we've been good ever since we decided to get back together, and got even better once we got engaged....how could he do this..to his family."

"Because he's stupid, and let's his dick to the thinking."

"Ugh..." I put my head in my hands.

"Heeeyyyy...you're gonna be okay."

We hear footsteps coming down the stairs and soon Riley walks into the living room and climbs into my lap.

"Did you happen to see if bubba was up." She shakes her head no.
