Chapter 34 ~ Hospital

~STILL DAN'S POV~
The four of us ran out of the apartment and jumped into Zoe's car, "So where are they?" Zoe asked as she started the engine of her mini.

"In a alley by Starbucks," I say.

"That's not a good thing in itself," Alfie says as Zoe reverses and drives off in a hurry.

"I know," I say, "That's why I am in a panic!"

We pulled up in front of he alley and me and Phil jump out the car to Lexi and Jake.

"Oh my god are you ok?" Phil asks

"I am but Jake isn't," Lexi says as Alfie gives her her metal running leg from out he boot before walking down the alley. We hear him gasp and he returns with a completely wrecked metal leg with screws missing and it dented.

"We need to take you both to hospital," Phil says.

"But Phil," Zoe says, "My car can only carry five and there is six of us here..."

"Then call an ambulance!" Jake says quickly, "I'd rather wait ten minutes for an ambulance which can break the law by going through red lights than have you guys have to."

"Are you sure?" I ask, "cos you look like your in agony..."

"I'll be fine, honest," Jake remarked, "Just call the ambulance!"

And that was what we did. We called the ambulance which arrived ten minutes later. It took both Jake and Lexi and I tagged along too, leaving Phil to go in the car with Zoe and Alfie.

We get to the hospital and I am told to wait behind as my daughter and her boyfriend are pushed away in hospital beds.

"Here," Jake says, giving me his iPhone 6, "The password is 4537. Call my mom please... not my dad."

I nod, "Sure."

I turn on Jake's phone and look at the screen saver. It made me smile: it was a cute picture of Lexi and himself at the park looking onto the lake with their backs turned, holding hands.

I smile and swipe across, type in the password and scroll down to the contact: mom ❤️

It rings five times before, "Hello? Jake? Why are you calling me whilst I'm at work?"

"Sorry... erm... is this Jake's mom?" I ask.

There was a pause, "Yes... now who are you..."

"I'm Dan, your son's girlfriend Lexi's dad.... Well one of them," I say.

"Oh... hi Dan... has something gone on 'cos I'm kinda busy at work and-"

I sigh, "Your son and my daughter are in hospital."

She gasps, "What happened?"

"Lexi use to be friends with a boy who raped her every night for two weeks... today he came back from prison and hurt Lexi. Your son was amazing at protecting Lexi... but he got hurt himself... the bully stamped on his ankle and we think it is broken..."

"Oh my god..." I hear his mom begin to cry.

"Look, me and my fiancé are in the hospital and about to go to Lexi and Jake's ward. Shall we meet you there where we can introduce and talk about this in person?" I suggest as I see Phil, Zoe and Alfie run in towards me.

"Ok... I'll see you soon ok? I'll try to get out of work to see you."

"Ok, bye!" And I end the call.
