A few minutes later, Joe Ben comes back out of the woods carrying two jars of moonshine. He hands them to Tim.
"Here ya go, Timothy. You keep these away from dat brother of yors." The old man laughs.
"I'll try, Joe. But I think he can smell it a mile away." Tim chuckles. "Well, we need to head home. Good seeing you again Joe."
"Always my pleasure, Timothy. I guarantee." Joe said, shaking Tim's hand then turns to Adam. "Nice meeting you too, Adam. You take good care of my boy here. He's a good man." Joe pats Tim on the back and gives Adam a wink.
"Nice to meet you too. And I'll try my best." Adam says with a smile.
"Y'all take care, ya hear?" The old man says before disappearing back into the woods.
Tim opens one of the jars and takes a drink. He swallows hard and his eyes gets wide. "Wow! I wouldn't recommend drinking too much of this at one time." He said between coughs.
"How can you drink it, if it's that strong?" Adam asked.
"After a few sips, it doesn't matter any more." Tim laughs wipes his watering eyes.
"Well, don't be getting drunk. I don't know the way back." Adam said taking the jars from him and putting them away in the cooler.
"I'm not drunk, I might have a slight buzz but I've had like four beers." Tim smiles walking up to Adam and kissing him softly.
"Does Joe know you're gay? I got the feeling he did." Adam said, putting his arms around Tim's waist.
"Everybody knows. The guy I was telling you about? Had a very big mouth. He told everybody we were sleeping together. Then he left town, leaving me to, as they say 'face the music'. Most of the people didn't really care. But there's some that looks at me like I've got some kind of disease or something. I've been called fag, homo but one of my favorites is from Bayou Bob, he's called me Butt Plunger." Tim chuckles as he takes Adam's hand and walks back toward the boat.
"You seem to be taking it awfully good. I'd be pissed." Adam said.
"Oh, it did hurt at first. We had only been together twice but he made people believe that we were bopping every night. There were several who supported me but the three that really gave me the most support was Austin, Kelsey and Joe Ben. They helped me be proud of who I am." Tim said as they walked slowly, hand in hand.
"But that was like, what, ten years ago? Some still treats you like that?" Adam ask.
"Yep, like I said. I'm a marked man. Austin and I grew up here. Everyone here knows us. But a lot of people turned their backs to me and hasn't turned around yet." He said helping Adam into the pirogue.
"That's sad. People can be so stupid." Adam said, reaching down and petting Satchmo on the head.
"Well, everyone has the right to their beliefs but they don't have to be so cruel. The way I see it. They shouldn't call me names because I'm gay just like I shouldn't call them names because they may believe homosexuality is wrong. The human race is suppose to be the smartest creatures on this planet but we constantly want to hurt each." Tim said as he slowly rowed.
"Wow, that was some speech." Adam said, smiling at Tim.
"I think too much when I drink. I also talk too much. So you can tell me to shut up at any time." Tim chuckles.
"I love hearing you talk. I love your voice." Adam winks at him.
They fall into a comfortable silence for several minutes just enjoying the scenery.
"So when are y'all going back to get your stuff?" Tim asked, breaking the silence.
"It'll have to be soon. We didn't bring that many clothes." Adam said.
"We don't have a washer and dryer either. The generator isn't strong enough for them." Tim said.
"How do you get your clothes washed?" Adam asked, giving Tim a puzzled look.
"Either Kelsey or Olena washes them for us. Olena lives close enough to town to actually have electricity and Rob has a bigger generator than we do." Tim answers with a shrug.
"Do you think Austin and Olena will ever get married?" Adam ask.
"I'm sure of it. He just doesn't want to leave his big brother all alone." Tim smiles.
"Aww, that's sweet. But I totally understand. I worry about Chris too." Adam sighs looking out across the water.
"Oh, I wouldn't worry about Chris. He's a cute guy. And this Bayou is full of good-looking girls. The guys aren't too hot but the girls are very pretty. It won't take Chris long to find that out. But he won't find them in our front yard. Olena is the only one there, and she's spoken for. We'll all have to make a trip into town." Tim said as they pull up to their small dock.
"I'm glad you think the guys aren't too hot. Maybe I won't have anything to worry about." Adam said biting his bottom lip.
Tim laughs and shakes his head. "Trust me, Sugar. You don't have a thing to worry about. And you'll see why once you actually notice the guys around here."
"Just in time." Austin calls out. "Where have y'all been?"
"Just showing Adam some of the sights." Tim said, stooping down looking to see what all they had gotten from the traps. "Wow, did good this morning."
"Oh, you hadn't seen nothing yet, show him Chris." Austin said with a huge grin.
Tim stood up, looking at Chris sitting on the tailgate of the truck. Chris reaches behind him in the truck bed and holds up an animal.
Tim gasped. "HOLY SH*T!!"
"Yea, I thought you might like that. I nearly died when I saw it." Austin laughed.
"What is it?" Adam asked, all he seen was a dead animal.
"Sugar, that's a f*cking mink. We caught a F*CKING MINK!!" Tim laughed giving Austin a high-five.
