They load everything into the trunk of Chris's car. Adam walks back to the car to see if there was anything inside that he needed to get.
Adam finds Tim's jacket laying in the back seat. He shakes it out to make sure there was no broken glass on it and then slips it on his good arm and drapes it over the shoulder of the broken one.. Sniffing the collar of the jacket, he smiles at the scent of his lover's cologne.
"Adam? You ready?" Chris asks from the car. "I'm sure they are through with Tim by now."
"Yea." Adam says, not really loud enough to be heard. He slips his hand into the pocket of the jacket as he walks back to where the others was waiting.
He smiles as he pulls their ticket stubs from Six Flags out of the pocket. He gives a heavy sigh, slipping the stubs back into the pocket and stares sadly out the window.
The ride back to the hospital was very quiet. Everyone worried about what the doctors might have found, even though they tried their best to keep positive.
Walking down the quiet hallways, Adam couldn't help but smile at the noise their boots were making on the shiny tile floor. The sound echoing off the white sterile walls.
He hears Jenika giggle to herself.
"We sound like a herd of cows." She whispers, causing them all to chuckle quietly.
Adam's smile drops when he sees Dr. Chance standing at the nurses' station, near Tim's room.
"Dr. Chance?" Adam calls out as they make their way over to where the doctor was standing.
"Oh, perfect timing." Chance smiles. "We just now got Tim back into his room."
"What did you find out?" Austin asks anxiously.
"Well, lets go over here so we can talk." Chance says as he picks up a clip board and walks to a private waiting room.
The others follow him after glancing nervously at each other.
"Okay." Chance starts as he closes the door behind them, shutting out the noise. "Actually things didn't look too bad. There was no bleeding in the brain. No blood clots, which was a real concern. We didn't see any kind of damage to the brain, itself."
"Why do I feel like there is a 'but' coming?" Austin asks.
"Because there is." Chance nods. "But, there was some damage done to the Optic Nerve. Which that and the swelling are the reasons for the blindness."
"Does that mean he'll be blind permanently?" Adam asks with a shaky voice.
"No. I'm still pretty confident that Tim will regain his eyesight eventually, as he heals." Chance says as he scans over the results on the clipboard. "But I believe due to the damage to the Opic Nerve, his vision will be impaired. I'm not sure how bad his vision will be but he will most likely have to depend on glasses to be able to see properly."
"That's good hear." Austin says with a slight smile. "I can deal with my brother wearing glasses."
"Why is he in so much pain if there's no damage to the brain?" Adam asks.
"He's in pain because of the swelling. It's putting pressure on the nerves in his brain." Dr. Chance explains. "Once the swelling starts to recede, the pain will ease. Until then, we'll just have to keep him pumped full of pain killer." Chance smiles.
"So the bottom line is, besides for the impaired vision, Tim is going to be alright?" Adam asks.
"Right now, it looks that way." Chance nods with a smile.
Adam breaths a sigh of relief as tears began to roll down his cheeks.
"I'm hoping those are happy tears." Chris says as he hugs his younger brother.
Adam nods as he continues to cry into his brother's shoulder.
"How long do you think he'll have to stay here?" Jenika asks.
"I think once the brain gets over the initial shock of being jarred around so forcefully, that the swelling will go down pretty rapidly. Once the swelling has gone down completely, we'll do another MRI to make sure everything is working properly. And if everything is looking good, then he'll be allowed to go home. Of course he will probably remain blind for awhile." Chance says as he goes to open the door.
"Can we go see him now?" Adam asks.
"Yep, he's already be asking for you." Chance chuckles.
Adam hurriedly makes his way to Tim's room.
He quietly walks up to the bed and looks down at his lover, his eyes were closed and he was breathing easily.
Adam gently takes him by the hand thinking he was asleep and didn't want to wake him.
Tim slowly opens his eyes and squeezes his hand lightly. "Adam?"
"Hey, gorgeous." Adam says softly, leaning down and placing a soft kiss on Tim's dry lips. "How are you feeling?"
"Oh, I ain't feeling no pain." Tim says with a smile. He slowly reaches up trying to find Adam's face.
Adam takes him by the hand and softly kisses it.
Tim caresses Adam's cheek.
"Why are you crying?" Tim asks with furrowed brows. "Was is bad news?"
"No." Adam chuckles. "Actually it was great news."
"Really?" Tim asks with slight smile.
"You're going to be fine." Adam sniffs
"And you're crying because of that?" Tim asks with a puzzled look.
"I think you would call them happy tears, Bro." Austin laughs, knowing Tim's present state wasn't allowing him to think clearly.
"Oh." Tim says, but still looks confused. "But I still can't see."
"The doctors are pretty confident that your vision will come back." Adam says, kissing Tim's hand again. "But you'll probably have to wear glasses."
"Glasses?" Tim asks with a disgusted look on his face.
