After school, Allie didn't know that Hunter would be picking her up until he texted her saying that he was waiting in the parking lot.
"Allie! Wait up," someone called to her.
She turned around and saw Lucy. "Hey, what's up?"
"Easton just asked me what we were doing this Friday."
Allie was surprised. "Oh, um, he asked me what I was doing Friday-"
"And you said we were hanging out? Why didn't you say that you're free?" Lucy interrupted.
"Because maybe I'm not free. Maybe I'm busy," she told her crossly.
"What are you doing? Easton asked you out and you turned him down!" Lucy was surprised at her friend.
"I-I have company in town," she half lied.
"Who? All your family is in town," Lucy said matter-of-factly. "Unless you're seeing someone else!"
"No! If I was, I would've told you."
"Then you're hiding something. I thought we agreed to tell each other everything."
Allie was about to answer her friend, when Hunter called. "Listen, go back to the hotel. I'll call my mom to pick me up." She hung up.
Lucy saw a van drive past. "That's the van you always get in. Who is it? Who's that guy driving?"
Allie took in a deep breath. "I told you, I have company in town."
"Allie, tell me!"
