Chapter 34 - "Not a lot of Hope..."
3 Months later - July
'You've just got to give the woman a chance' Rory said as they entered the locker room.
'How can I give her a chance? What the hell has she been doing for the last few months of she can't do a simple chest drain?' John scoffed, finding his stethoscope and checked his phone again.
'Why do you keep checking your phone?' Rory asked.
'No reason'
'She still hasn't called you back has she? Don't you think she might be trying to tell you something? It's been two weeks'
'And I've phoned her everyday for two weeks with no answer. I know she went back to Blackpool but I expected something of a response from her. Even if she didn't want to see me again' John muttered.
'Forget her. She was only ever going to use you for your money. Your an easy target dude' Rory said rolling his eyes. 'You and Adie are still coming for dinner Sunday right?'
'Yeah. We'll be there. She's looking forward to it actually. She said she loves Aunt Amy's roast potatoes. Better than I can cook apparently'
'Because you don't cook John. You microwave all your meals' Rory pointed out as they headed out to the ward to see the entirety of the emergency department looking like a bloody crime scene. 'What on earth?'
'John dude. Thank god your here. Lauren just quit this morning and walked out. Said she clashed with someone too much and that she couldn't stay. The department has been in ruins since'
'Holy crap. Right. Get me all the notes for patients and let's try to send some off to different wards - that way we can get some walk ins in here' John said methodically thinking through ways to get this to work.
He knew that the ward was going down hill but he didn't quite expect it to be in this much of a mess.

'What are you doing in there Clara? You've been in there for over 40 minutes' Lilly complained as she was already late for work.
'I'm just, busy okay' Clara said wiping her eyes and confused by what the stick in front of her said.
She looked at her phone that had yet another missed call from John - and knew that now she really did have no excuse. She had to call him.
But how does she drop a bombshell on him like this? They only fucked at the hotel a couple of times... How was this even possible?
'Clara. I really don't care if your taking a massive shit but I have go to work. Please let me in' Lilly begged, as Clara opened the bathroom door and Lilly looked her in the face.
Mascara running down her cheeks in small blobs and stains of eyeliner gone awry. 'What's wrong?'
Lilly was Clara's best friend to this day.
She was there the first time she went through the whole baby thing and she's sure that she would stick with her through this.
Lilly moved to London 5 months before Clara decided to move to London and they have been sharing a flat ever since.
'I think. I think I might be in trouble' Clara said handing Lilly the stick of which he did not have time to look at right now but knew there was no way of getting out of it.
She knew she couldn't leave her best friend in this ruin.
'Oh Fuck me Clara. Do you even know what condoms are? It's not like this is the first time is it?' Lilly scoffed.
'I swear. I swear we used them. We went at it like 5 times and we definitely used them... I'm sure we did' she said thinking back to what happened and when it happened and how they were at the hotel for quite some time... But that now she thinks about it - that can't have been where she got knocked up. 'The Fucking bathroom'
'Deer God Clara. Aria is only 6 months old and your already knocked up again. People are going to think that you have no control. And it's a different guy. You are so in shit street'
'Yeah thanks for that Lilly, much appreciated is your witty comments. If it's any consolation I don't have his number anyway' she lied, as if saying that would make things better.
The last thing that she wanted to do was have to confront the and that saved her life not so long ago and tell him that she was pregnant with his kid. Plus what the hell would his boss say?
Clara's in the Doctoring career herself and she knows exactly how it would look if they found out that he had slept with a patient - so for his sake maybe she should just keep this to herself?
But she knows that she would want to know.
If she was a guy and someone out there was pregnant with her kid she would want to know about it.
'What the hell are you going to do? I mean seriously? What are you going to do about it?' Lilly scoffed, as if shouting at her was the answer to all this.
'Nothing I suppose. Have the kid. Because I can't not can I?' Clara sighed, wiping her eyes and slumping down into the sofa where she watched the 6 month old giggling in a chair.
'You think you can manage a second kid?'
'I've really got no choice Lil because I can't deal with the idea of ridding a kid - and I have to face the fact that the poor kids Dad was actually a really nice guy, so if it's like it's Dad... Then what can be so bad?'
'The fact that your broke and can barely scrounge together this months rent'
'What would you do? Because I know that you wouldn't want an abortion' she scolded.
'I know how to use protection... Even though some idiots don't' she muttered, going to work and leaving Clara alone to emerge in her own thoughts.
