~*Jacks POV*~

I lay in my bed, trying hard to sleep, but failing. No matter how hard I try to relax, I stay tense and worried about Violet. I want to run out of the town and find her again, hold her in my arms and keep her safe. I continue to stare out of the window, waiting for dawn so that I can find her. I promised her I would wait and let her get far away from here. I continue to stare out the window from my bed, my mind wandering to every thought you could ever think of and I start to see the sun. I see the break of day appears through the curtains. I instantly jump out of my bed and start to pack up all my things for the days journey. I hear a soft knock at my door and open it in one swift moment. I see Wade on the other side, confusion covering his face.
"Do you know where Violet is? She isn't anywhere in the house." Wade informs me, but I already knew.
"Can you get Mark and Bob? I need to explain something to you guys." I say with a sigh. Wade nods and starts for the other rooms. I pack a few more items from my room, then jog downstairs and sit on the couch anxiousness filling me. I see Wade, Bob and Mark rush downstairs and stand in front of me, awaiting an answer. Mark, however, does not look confused, but sad and worried, a bit on edge.
"What do you need to tell us then?" Wade asks seriously.
"Violet left. She ran away last night." Mark says in a sadness filled voice. I can't help, but have shock show in my face.
"I didn't know she told you." I whisper in shock.
"She did right as she said goodbye. We need to go now. She is out there and needs us to find her." Mark says sternly. I hop up from the couch grabbing my bag.
"Let's go." I say opening the door. I am surprised to see Carter standing on the other side, his hand raised to knock. His face turns from surprise to his normal grin quickly, realizing I am here.
"Well, well, well, isn't this a coincidence?" Carter chuckles putting his hand to his side.
"Not really, I was just leaving with my friends here." I growl angrily.
"Oh, don't you want your supplies? And I don't see Violet with you, where is she?" Carter asks, keeping his grin on his face.
"We don't need the supplies. And her location is none of your damn business!" I raise my voice slightly in frustration.
"There are two things you are going to tell me, and you're going to tell me right now. Where are you guys going and, more importantly, where the hell is Violet?" Carter questions me angrily. Carter pins me against the wall putting a dagger to my knife. I shake my head vigorously and spit on Carters face angrily.
"I won't tell you a fucken thing, so get off me and leave us alone!" I shoot angrily. I see Mark storms over to me and pulls Carter off of me, taking the knife out of his hand.
"We are leaving, and you are never seeing Violet again. If I ever see you again, this..." Mark glances at the knife. "Will go through your throat. So leave us alone!" Mark shouts angrily. He then stabs the knife into a small, wooden table and stomps to grab my bag off my shoulder. Mark then leads us down the steps of the porch and towards the exit. I quickly follow Mark until we reach the gate.
"We need to look for her signs. Then we can find her." I say watching Mark unlock the gate and hold it open for me.
"I know. I'm sure she'll be looking for us at the same time." Mark says waiting for us all to get through the gate.
"I'm sure she will. She's a surviver too, we'll find her." I agree beginning to scan the trees for markings of symbols that might've been left by Violet. I see a small marking of a mustache left on a tree.
"Did you tell her to put your watfstaches on the trees?" I ask trying to see the marking better.
"Yeah, why?" Mark asks.
"I think I see one on this tree." I say running my fingers over the marking, as if I could feel Violet through it. Before I know it Mark is next to me examining the carving in the tree.
"Yeah, its her. She probably went this way." Mark says glancing up in the direction he assumes Violet went.
"Okay. Let's start looking then." I say, my Irish accent thickening near the end. I hate when my accent thickens like that, I sound so weird around everyone else. We walk through the trees and bushes, looking for any sign of her.
"We should try to make conversation, might be helpful in the long run." I say with a laugh.

"True, what do you feel like talking about?" Mark chuckles.
"You once told me that your friends were more important than your family, why did you say that?" I ask, remembering the exact conversation like it was yesterday.
"Firstly, that was a long time ago. Secondly, I was a bit tipsy that night and thirdly, I don't think that my family liked the rumor that I was sleeping with a student. My family basically rejected me after that got in the papers. My friends were the only ones who knew it wasn't true, because I was with Jess, but my family never knew about her. That's why I said that." Mark explains with a sigh.
"I still can't believe they believed that stupid rumor. The girl was just searching for attention." I say, trying to be a good and supportive friend.
"She was and we both knew it. You remember the story, right?" Mark asks, but he doesn't seem in the mood to re tell his explanation.
"Yeah, I know. You're a good guy, Mark. Don't blame yourself for it, we can stick together." I say with a soft smile.
"Thanks, but I think that some girl spreading rumors is the least of my problems. There's kinda a zombie apocalypse going on." Mark chuckles revealing a smile that I haven't seen in a while.
"Yeah, just kinda." I chuckle back. I suddenly hear voices talking in the distance. I glance at Mark, who I realize does the same. "Violet." I mumble under my breath, picking up my pace. I suddenly become eager to see her again, to hug her tightly and tell her we are safe now. Mark follows in my tracks, probably the same thoughts running through his head. I run around a tree and see a young girl and a young boy sitting on logs next to one another. They both turn to me, shock instantly filling their faces.
"Who are you?" I ask disappointedly.
"We are citizens, from The Serene. Please don't tell our parents that we sneaked out." The boy says, terror filling his eyes.
"We won't. Have you seen a girl? She has brown hair, green eyes." I explain, hoping they have.
"Sorry, but no. And thanks." The boy responds with a smile. I roll my eyes and start away from them, I don't need them for anything. I see Mark start after me, following my every step.
"I wish it was her." Mark mumbles angrily.
"I know. Me too." I respond with a sigh.
