Finally, the nurses finish putting all the medicine into Mark. Dr. Garret approaches me slowly and sets down a clipboard he was previously holding. He pulls a stool near me and takes a seat in front of me.
"Hey Doc." I say casually. He shakes his head lightly and his eyes meet mine.
"Violet, I don't think you understand this man's condition." He responds in a voice full of disappointment.
"Then make me understand, he's the father of my baby and I think of all people you know what that's means to me." I state sternly.
"His health status will be a challenge to help. His vitals were beginning to shut down, but I got him to a stable situation. He will need a lot of rest and large meals as his body mass is decreasing from lack of nutrients. His body has many marks that appear to be from a type of whip. This has made him much weaker and on the verge of death from blood loss. Do you understand?" He finishes finally. I look back down at Mark and our hands that are interlocked.
"What do we need to do to fix him?" I question.
"He needs medication daily and to have someone watch him 24/7. However, in your current condition, I don't think that you can tale care of him alone. What I suggest is that you leave him here for now at least, and we'll take care of him. The thing that we need from you, is his basic information and your approval. I think we both know that if you don't let us do this, that Shane will be here within a blink of an eye." Dr. Garret explains in a kind tone.
"I can take care of him. You know how strong I am and you know how long I've been looking for him and you know how much he means to me. So, don't you dare try to take him away as soon as I get him back." I respond angrily as I squeeze Marks hand for my own support, a way to calm my rage.
"Violet, we're not trying to take him, we are simply trying to do what's best for him. You are welcome to visit and even sleep here if you desire, but he is not ready to leave." He explains, his hazel eyes shining with reflection from the lights. I sigh heavily and turn back towards Mark to look at his motionless body.
"I'm going to stay here every day and every night, got it?" I say, slowly soothing my rage by rubbing my finger over Marks.
"Fine with me." He answers, putting his hands up in a surrendering type way.
"I'll be back with my things." I say as I give Marks hand one last squeeze before I let go of him. I walk towards the door, bu before I open it I turn back to face Dr. Garret.
"Oh, and there are 3 other patients with similar conditions to Marks, so please tell me how they are when I get back." I explain. He nods back at me and stands from his seat, slowly approaching me.
"His name is Mark then?" He clarifies with a smirk on his face. I nod slowly and give him a puzzled look.
"Yeah." I say in a confused manner.
"Ha, that's my brothers name, but this man isn't my brother... After all, my brother is the only patient I haven't successfully healed." Dr. Garret says with a pain forming in his eyes.
"You'll heal all these men. I know you will, you're a great doctor Garret." I say with a smile that I hope soothes him.
"Thank you Violet, but I have work to do. I'll see you back soon and I'll make sure to check on the other men you spoke of." He says as he walks around me and out of the door, closing it behind him. I can't help but turn back to see Mark lying in the hospital bed, just as I expected. I sigh at the sight and give him a smile, as if he would just get up smiling back and kiss me on the cheek as he used to. I turn back towards the door and I finally exit, closing the door behind me. I walk deeper into the hospital and look at the signs on the doors. I notice 3 doors along the hallway marked as "Unknown". One of the rooms I decide to enter and I see Wade sitting in the bed reading on of the compounds newspapers.
"Hey." I say with a smile as I close the door behind me. Wade looks up and sets the paper down on his lap.
"Hey, and thanks." Wade says happily giving me a bright smile that I'm not sure why it's there.
"Thanks for what?" I question as I take a seat next to him like I did with Mark.
"For saving us. We probably wouldn't have made it out alive if you didn't find us." Wade explains sincerely. I nod my head.
"Well I'm just glad that I found you guys in time." I respond with a smile.
"Oh, and how are the other guys? And did you find Maddie?" Wade questions, changing the mood almost instantly.
"I took Maddie with me when I left. And I've only checked on you and Mark since I've gotten back. Mark is still passed out and will be in the hospitals care for a while. And that's all I know right now." I explain with a sigh escaping my mouth.
"And how are you and and babe?" Wade questions gesturing to my baby bump that has become quite noticeable.
"I'm fine I guess and the baby is healthy. I hope to find the gender sometime next week." I explain casually, Wade's eyes widen at my statement.
"They can tell you the gender?" Wade questions in shock. I nod my head slowly.
"Yeah, but the equipment is old, so they have to wait a for the baby to develop a lot more before they can tell me a certain boy or girl." I explain with a small smirk on my face. "But they said that so far it appears to be a girl, but don't tell anyone." I say in a hushed voice.
"My lips are sealed." Wade chuckles moving his hand over his lips in a way that people usually say "Shh".
"But I'll make sure to tell Mark once I know, but for now, I'm gonna check on the others. I haven't seen them or the new house that I have apparently." I say with a small chuckle before I carefully get up from my seat.
"Make sure to say hi to all of them for me." Wade says happily as he grabs for the newspaper.
"Got it, and I hope you guys get better soon. I'll probably be wandering around here later so, I'm sure I'll see you later." I say with a smile as I start towards the door.
"See you later kid, and make sure to tell me the gender once you know it!" Wade says happily with a bright grin on his face. I nod my head and exit the room, closing the door behind me. I walk to the door next to Wade's that is also marked as "Unknown". I open the door and see Emmet lying on the bed passed out. I walk inside quietly and close the door behind me, careful not to wake him. I grab the clipboard next to his bed and examine the information written. It seems that Emmet has lost a lot of blood like Mark did, but he won't need intensive care and can be discharged in about a week if his recovery stays how it is at this rate. I set down the clipboard carefully on the table next to him and smile at him. Not because I think that I need to, but because Maddie will finally be able to see him and she won't be on edge now that he's back. I then turn and walk out of the room, once again closing the door behind me. I walk into the next room that I assume will be Bob's room. I walk inside and see a nurse standing next to Bob and talking to him.
"Yes, we do and I would like to see her as soon as possible as she is pregnant with my friends child." I hear Bob say before I enter. His eyes wander and finally land on me, making a smile cover his face. "Speaking of, nice to see you Violet." He adds. I now notice all the bruises that cover his face and the sight saddens me.
"Miss Violet, you know this man?" The nurse questions in a shocked tone. I smile at Bob and nod.
"Yeah, his name is Bob. Can you give me a few minutes to talk to him?" I question in a polite tone to the nurse. She nods and quickly goes out of the room as I directed.
"You seem pretty popular around here." Bob comments as I approach him and sit in the chair next to his bed. I nod my head lightly.
"I'm just the first person that is new around here and I'm friends with the leader of this compound and that's the way I got all of you in here. If I wasn't you'd all be in the waiting room and I don't know if many of you could handle that. Because Mark and Emmet are passed out in their rooms right now, and they need rest. But because the leader, his name is Shane, ordered them to treat you guys, you guys are here. Although the main thing I'm known for is being reckless and for being the first pregnant woman that's ever been here." I explain.
"So nothing has changed with you then." Bob chuckles. I nod my head with small laughs escaping my mouth.
"I guess so. But enough about me, how are you?" I question. Bob shrugs and locks his eyes with mine.
"I'm better I guess, however good someone who has gone through what I have can be." Bob explains with a sigh with his smile fading.
"I have a question for you, but in not sure if you can answer it." I explain with a small sigh.
"Go ahead." Bob says with a smile.
"Do you know what happened to Mark and if so, do you think his mental health will be okay?" I question, my voice full of the concern I have inside me.
"That's hard to answer, but why do you ask?" Bob questions curiously.
"I'm just worried because I know what trauma can do to people." I explain my eyes going down to the floor.
"Well, I know that Mark is strong and I'm sure whatever happened to him hr can overcome. Take it from me, I know Mark better than most people and he has gone through worse than this. He'll get better." Bob explains with a smile that I look up to see.
"Thanks, I'm just being a worried girlfriend, aren't I?" I question with a small laugh.
"You have the right to be. Don't worry too much about it, I'm sure Mark would be worse than you right now if you were the one who was in his place." Bob chuckles.
"True, but I've gone through worse too." I add with a smile.
"It made you to be the strong person you are today." Bob says with a smile. "I'm glad that Mark has a great girlfriend like you." Bob says happily.
"Thanks Bob, really. I'll be back here in a bit, I gotta get all my stuff because I'm gonna be staying here with all you guys. Oh, and Wade says hi." I say with a smile.
"Tell him I say hi back and I'll see you around then." Bob says with a nod of his head. I then now back and get up from my seat and exit the room, once again, closing the door behind me.
