~*Shane's POV*~

I finally finish getting dressed and head to my office. Carter James, is that really his alias? I mean, he's using his middle name as a last name, not a very good plan. My little brother hasn't been a very smart one after all, I've always had the wits in the family. My office is only a few blocks away, so it doesn't take me long to get there. I walk inside through the back so I go strait to my office. A going woman with very light, almost white, hair stands in front of my desk with her back turned to me. Her hair goes down to her hips, interesting.
"Hello, who might you be?" I question, closing my office door behind me. She quickly turns to face me, her pale green eyes look stunned for some strange reason.
"I'm Elise Turner, your new assistant sir." She says politely. I nod lightly, I should've guessed.
"Oh, alright. I'm guessing you know who I am, but right now there is a man who wishes to speak with me. His name is Carter James, please bring him in. I'll go over a few other things with you once I'm done talking with this man." I state, walking behind my desk and taking my seat. Elise nods and quickly gets out of the room. She has a strange look to her that makes her unique. Her green eyes resemble Violets, but hers are much more innocent and careful than Violet's. Her hair is like looking at daylight, and I would think it was dyed, however I don't think it fits her look. It could definitely be natural by how it looks, but the color is unique. I have an interesting way of looking at people I've been told. I look at details and try to figure out why it exists or how it came to be how it is now. Some say it's "cool", others day it's weird. I'm not sure how I feel about it, after all, it's just another piece of me.
"Here is Mr. James sir." Elise says, holding the door open for him. He walks in with a strut, it looks stupid on him. Elise closes the door so she is on the outside and Carter sots in front of me with a grin. He still looks stupid, they say power does things to people. I suppose this is what it did to him.
"Look at you, all high and mighty in the main compound of District 1." He teases with a chuckle.
"What do you want?" I question in an annoyed tone, leaning my elbows on my desk.
"What you took from me." He responds with another grin. I roll my eyes.
"Stop doing that, you look like a stupid punk and easy to defeat. That's not what you want for yourself, I know you well enough to know that." I sneer in an annoyed tone.
"Oh, stop being all high and mighty around me. Just talk to me like a normal person." Carter says, his cold, silvery eyes staring at me. He has our dad's eyes, and this sight reminds me of him. Every time I would get in trouble those eyes would glare at me like Carter does now.
"Okay, so, what did you say you wanted?" I say, giving him the respect that my brother deserves.
"What you decided to take from me." Carter says in a childishly annoyed tone.
"And what did I take from you?" I ask him with a slight eye roll.
"My girl. I took her and she was supposed to mine, but then she came here and you took her from me!" Carter says, raising his voice slightly.
"What? Who did I take from you?" I ask, confused at how this could be possible.
"Violet, I trust you know who I'm talking about now." Carter hisses. I can't help my jaw from dropping, what has my brother done?
"She is a pregnant, damaged girl. If she is the one you came for, then I'm sorry, but I can't help you. She is my fiancé and it is going to stay that way." I say in a threatening manner.
"She was mine first, I took her and she was-"
"No! That is not how it works. You don't just pluck a woman and call her yours. Perhaps you are a reason why she has nightmares every night, or why her eyes don't shine anymore. Her friend Jack told me about it, when she used to smile and her eyes twinkled in the sun. You might be a reason why none of that happens anymore. So, no, you do not get to even see her, not if I have a say, and I have more of a say than you ever will. So, don't you ever threaten me, or her ever again!" I shout, pounding my fist on the table for emphasis.
"Do you think I care about her feelings or yours? I just want what is mine, so give it or else bad things are going to happen and you know it." Carter says with his fists clenching on my desk.
"Don't you threaten me!" I shout. I take in a deep breath and look at him in annoyance. "Get back to your home while you can. If any of her friends know you're here... You'll be lucky if you're not dead in the morning." I state in a slight grumble.
"I'm surprised they aren't dead yet, but if they do try to hurt me, they will be." Carter says as he stands from his seat and starts towards the door.
"If you hurt them, I will come after you. They are my friends too, I hope you know." I say before he can leave.
"Fine. I'll see you again soon... Brother." Carter says. He has only called me that when he's upset, he used to almost spit the word at me when we were children. And I would do it back at him, just to show my anger. He opens my office door and steps outside, leaving the door hanging open. That has always annoyed me, just the sight of an open door makes me cringe inside. I suppose that's why all doors in my home are always closed whether someone is in there or not.

Elise walks inside the room, closing the door behind her unlike Carter.
"You said you had things to go over with me Mr. Lancaster." She says, taking a seat in front of me. None of my employees have ever done that without my permission. This girl really is interesting.
"Yes, I did." I say, just trying to understand how she got this job. Politeness is a big deal in this line of work, and she obviously doesn't have too much of it.
"Would you like to tell me?" She questions, crossing her legs while she sits.
"Sure. First, always close doors behind you, I don't want this place to look messy to outsiders. Second, because you are my assistant, always introduce me to whoever it may be, even if they already know me. Also, make sure that you come to me first whenever someone wishes to see me. Don't ever allow someone in without my permission, unless they are on the list which the guards have. And lastly, everything in this office is top secret. You do not talk about what goes on in here to anyone. I don't care if it is your best friend or someone who's curious, you do not tell them anything. If I hear that you leaked information, I won't hesitate to fire you. Am I clear in all my conditions?" I question, leaning on my desk with my elbows. She answers with a swift nod and stands from her seat.
