~*7 Days Until The Wedding*~
~*Shane's POV*~I wake up to the sound of someone knocking on the front door. Since I'm not expecting anyone, I suppose that just this once I won't get dressed before I answer it. I walk, barefoot, down the steps, my cool air conditioning blowing on my bare chest. At least I'm wearing my business pants with a belt, hopefully whoever it is will still take me seriously. I turn the doorknob and am faced with my assistant, Amelia, standing there. She holds a few folders filled with documents and a box that has no top, so I can see it's contents. It has my wedding invitations inside, interesting.
"Hello, what do you need Amelia?" I question, leaning on the doorframe for only a second because the hardwood digs into my bare skin.
"Uh, oh, um... When are you coming into the office Shane? I mean... Mr. Lancaster." She quickly corrects herself and has extreme blush on her cheeks.
"Probably at my normal time, why? Do I have something to deal with soon?" I question, confused at why she would come all the way to my mansion just to ask this silly question.
"Well... Mr. Lancaster..." She trails off, avoiding my eyes completely.
"Yes? What is it?" I question. Her hands almost twitch in an anxious and nervous manner.
"I was wondering if... Maybe, you would be willing to..." She trails off again, the blush on her cheeks getting brighter and sweat droplets appearing on her forehead.
"Willing to what? Don't stutter like that, I can't understand it if you do that. Here, just come inside and leave all that on my desk in my study. I'll look at it before I go to the office." I state, opening the door further so she can enter. Amelia nods and quickly walks towards my home study where she will leave all the documents she had. I go to the kitchen and grab a glass from a cupboard above my head. I fill it with one ice cube and water before I head into my main living room and set it down. I then walk to my study and see Amelia picking up papers from the floor. I sigh, she always has been clumsy, but she is a good assistant. I go to my knees next to her and grab a few papers, piling them up on my desk. I'll order them later. Once all of them are picked up, we both stand and I let out a sigh.
"T-thank you sir." She says with more blush creeping onto her cheeks.
"Not a problem, anyways, follow me, I guess we have business to discuss." I say, remembering that she had actually come to my home to tell me something, and it must be important.
"Okay... I mean... Yes sir." She stutters nervously. I lead her to my main living room where her water sits on a coffee table in the middle of the room.
"I got you water, drink it if you wish. But, now, to business. What is it that you wish to tell me?" I question as I take my seat on the couch and lean back into it. Amelia takes a seat next to me with her hands in her lap. She sits up strait, unlike me, and stares forward, not daring to look at me.
"Mr. Lancaster-"
"Call me Shane when you are at my home, we don't need to be formal here." I say, after all, it does annoy me when people do that in my own home. I don't have people to my home to be formal, I can go anywhere else for that.
"Oh, alright Shane. I will probably be fired for this but I have to say it..." She pauses, only to glance at me.
"Go ahead, I'll listen." I state, slightly nervous. I'm not sure what she could ever say to get her fired, but let's see.
"Okay... Shane, I've grown feelings for you and I wanted to know if you would take me on a date..." She says quickly with extreme blush and more sweat on her forehead. I sigh, that's how my last assistant left me. Although, my last one assumed that I loved her too immediately and pushed herself on me. She left my office the next day and was replaced with Amelia. The truth about this situation is this.
"It would look bad for both of us if this did happen. I'm getting married and you have your whole life ahead of you. Don't waste it by being this person. Yes, it would be devastating for me, but it would be awful for you too. You would be labeled a slut to everyone in all districts and you don't want that. So, what I ask is, can you get over these feelings or am I getting a new assistant?" I question harshly, even though I know it's true. I can't have my reputation get ruined by this girl, I've worked too hard to get where I am now.
"Get a new one. I'm resigning now then sir. It was nice to serve you, but..." She trails off and gets up from my couch and walks away.
"You're a lovely girl Amelia, and I wish you luck in your next line of business. If you need me to sign anything for your next job, simply ask and I would be happy to." I call after her, even though I don't stand, just watch her leave.
"Thank you sir." She says as she opens the front door. And with that, she leaves and closes the door behind her. I sigh heavily into my palms. I had to, I have done a lot to get where I am now, and I won't let feelings ruin it. I grab a com off my table, I think I now have one in every room in my house. I click the button and begin to speak.
"Hello, this is Shane Lancaster. My assistant, Amelia, has just resigned. I need a new assistant and have someone give her all the papers she needs for the job. Thank you." I say. I set down the com once I'm done and I glance to see the glass of water I had prepared. I had thought that it was big, important news, and in a way it was. She will never get a job that pays as much as this one. That is why people in my offices stay, none have ever resigned until now. The job just pays too much to leave it so easily, even if the work place was bad, they get paid enough to deal with that and they all know it. Plus, any person who works in my offices gets discounts a shops and doesn't pay taxes, after all, it would just go back to their paycheck so there is no point. Suddenly, my thoughts are broken by the com speaking to me.
"Mr. Lancaster, your new assistant's name is Elise Turner and you have a visitor here to see you. He says it's a matter of property." A woman from my offices front desk says.
"Property..." I trail off, grabbing the com to reply. "What is his name?" I question curiously.
"Carter James from District 4, sir." She responds.
