~*8 Days Until The Wedding *~

"Stop... Stop... I don't need fancy shoes or hair styles... I don't want them, so just stop..." I continue to mutter under my breath at the woman, named Bella, who "prepares" me for my wedding. Shane hired her of course, he thinks that I need to look fantastic for the wedding. However, that isn't his true motive. He just wants the image of his wife to be in the hearts of everyone who is there. He wants people to be envious and respect me as I walk down the isle. Yes, he may want me to look pretty when we get married, but that is not his main motive. A small comb goes through my hair as Bella begins making another braid in my dark brown locks. I think I've been sitting in this can or while she does this for about two hours. She just makes new braids and hairstyles for me and then calls Shane in to either approve it, or not. So far he has denied every one, I guess he just wants me to get used to this sort of thing. After all, our marriage is an image, and he needs me to be all pretty for that image.
"Mr. Lancaster, I have another one for you." Bella calls him, finally taking her fingers out of my hair.
"One moment, but while you wait, please get Violet a mirror so she can see this one too." Shane explains in a booming voice from across the house. He's probably in his study, signing documents or doing other work.
"Yes Sir." Bella responds as she walks towards the staircase and grabs a large mirror. She holds it in front of me. I see my bright green eyes stand out from the rest of my body. My lips are chapped and have small spots of blood covering them. Small bandages lay across my arms dried blood is almost everywhere on my body. I have small scrapes on my cheeks and forehead. My bangs stay parted across my face in a way that I could see being called "pretty" to some. I have small braids at the back of my head that were pinned up to look like a type of design. I'm not sure if I like it or not, but it is different and unique.
"What do you think m'lady? Do you like it?" Bella questions, lightly moving the mirror so it faces the ground once more and leans on the first few steps of the large staircase.
"I told you, just call me Violet. I don't want to seem better than any of you, because I'm not. I'm just a person like you." I state in a slightly annoyed tone.
"As you wish. I apologize for what I said before..." Bella says, bowing slightly as a sign of respect. I nod and then see Shane walking quickly done the hall towards us.
"You look lovely my dear, do you wish to have this one?" Shane questions as he leans against a nearby wall.
"Sure... What my hair looks like really doesn't matter to me." I respond honestly with a shrug of my shoulders.
"I know... But that wasn't my question, let me word it differently. Do you like it?" Shane says, staring into my eyes intently.
"Yeah... I guess..." I respond with another light shrug. Shane nods and takes in a deep breath.
"Can you do this one for the wedding day Bella?" Shane questions, changing his attention to lightly set on her.
"Yes, of course Mr. Lancaster." She answers him kindly.
"Then that's the one we'll do." Shane declares. "But, for now you can take it out, I'm sure Violet won't want it in today." Shane says, and he's right. Bella nods and begins undoing all the braids that she had done. She unties them all, slowly dropping the hair ties to the ground.
"You and Maddie got a dress for you, correct?" Shane questions, crossing his arms over his chest when he speaks.
"Yeah, but she doesn't have one... And she doesn't have enough money to buy one... Can we please give her just enough money to get one? It would mean a lot to me..." I say, staring into his eyes intently.
"Of course. I will send it to her immediately, and I already sent a package to your old home for all the men. After all, the only one of them who applied for a job was Bob, and he does not have enough money for all of them to get a tux. Even though I've made it so that none of them pay rent." Shane finishes, moving his arms so that they hang by his sides.
"I know, but to be fair, they have gone through a lot since they came here. And when had money been a problem for you?" I question, slightly annoyed at his previous statement and tone.
"It isn't a problem. Despite what you may think, I respect your friends and actually enjoy their company. I don't do this out of pity or for you, I do it as a favor because I want to." Shane states, crossing his arms once more. I look away from him, instead staring at the floor in front of me.
"The party is supposed to be in seven days, before our wedding. Is that okay with you?" I question, leaning back in the chair so that more of my braids hang over and Bella can get to them better.
"Yeah, this is your home too, have all the parties you want." Shane states as he turns and begins walking back to his office.
"Thanks." I shout at him so that he can hear me from down the hall.

~*Shane's POV*~

"Thanks." She shouts at me and I just sigh. I don't think I deserved her thanks, but I will accept it anyways. I wander to the other side to my desk and sit in my soft chair. I grab a stack of papers that my assistant left here in the night. I straiten them and stare at the one on the top. It reads something like this:
'Dear Mr. Shane Lancaster,
I know your secrets and I won't let you get away with any of it. You think you're so big and mighty in your house and "office" but you're not. You won't have the protection much longer, you won't have any power much longer. I'll make sure of that. So to ahead, sit in your chair, drink your coffee, it won't last long. I'm coming for you, for you took what was rightfully mine. See you in a bit,
-Carter from District 4, AKA The Serene'
I take in a deep breath.
"You just try me... Brother..." I mumble to myself as I crinkle the page in my hands and toss it in the garbage. I grab a com off my desk and hold it close to my mouth.
"Get me the district director." I say, pressing down the button.
"Yes Mr. Lancaster." My assistant answers me kindly. I have some things to say to him, specifically about the well being of District 4.
