I stand with Mark behind large wooden doors. People on the other side wait to open them so that the wedding can properly begin. Excitement runs through my veins and Mark keeps his arm wrapped around mine happily.
"Are you ready?" Mark whispers while we wait. I smile brightly at just hearing his voice.
"I'm not sure yet, I'm excited though." I whisper back. Whispering is such a childish thing to do, like at sleepovers when girls whisper secrets to one another.
"That's good, you should be excited on your wedding day." Mark whispers back with his smile staying bright like my own.
"I'm nervous though... I mean, what if this all doesn't work out? What if Shane backs out or we have second thoughts?" I ask him in a hushed voice. Mark chuckles softly and shakes his head.
"Shane would be an idiot to deny you, anyone would be an idiot to deny you. Because you're a badass and because you're gorgeous. And if you have second thoughts... You might've wanted to think about that before now. Don't worry, you'll be fine, I promise." Mark says, lightly kissing my forehead in a comforting way. I smile again at his words.
"Can you promise me something?" I question, looking up at him to await his answer.
"Go ahead." Mark replies.
"When the doors open... Can you go in first? Just a few steps?" I ask in a whisper.
"Yeah, no problem." Mark responds with a hushed chuckle. I roll my eyes and suddenly the doors in front of me burst open. I see rows of people watching me and at the end of the road, Shane stands with Jack and Maddie. I take in a deep breath and nod for Mark to start. He takes a step without me and then I take the next step with him. Piano plays the classic, wedding song of 'Here Comes The Bride'. That isn't a surprise, of course Shane would have something like that. With every step we take, I continue to wonder; are we doing this right? Is there a certain pattern or accuracy that we need? Mark doesn't seem worried at all, that soothes me a bit. People who sit in these rows of seats, I don't recognize half of them, even the ones on my side. Although, I'm sure they all recognize me. As we approach the front, the closest few rows of people I recognize on both sides. On Shane's side, his assistant, Elise sits with her legs crossed under a beautiful dress. I suppose she would have the money to get something that nice. Emmet, Bob and Wade all sit on the front row on my side and have a space next to the edge. Mark takes me up the steps where Maddie stands excitedly. She has a beautiful, white dress on that resembles my own and her hair is curled perfectly. She wears one of the brightest smiles and holds a thumb up near her waist. Her makeup is beautiful like my own, and it really brings out her features more than usual. Mark smiles at me before he slowly peals his arm away from me. He then mouths 'good luck beautiful' before he walks down the steps and takes his seat next to Wade. I then quickly turn to face Shane and glance at Jack behind him. My eyes stare at Jack and he does a motion that I recognize. He does the sign for beautiful which is his hand going over his face in a special way. I smile and mouth the word 'handsome' back to him. Shane clears his throat which interrupts our little conversation. I force my eyes to Shane, he does look quite dapper, although he's always wearing a suit, so I can't really judge. His hair is parted perfectly and his suit is spotless; like usual.
"You look amazing." Shane whispers as he puts out his hands. I grab his hands back with just my fingertips. We had written the way we wished to be married. It had no religious nonsense, I think neither of us wanted that. It is more business, it suits Shane perfectly. A man holds our documents and still is on the first page.
"Good evening everyone, we are gathered here today for a very important event." The man speaks as he reads the document aloud. Event, of course that's what Shane would put it as. Not a holy whatever, not a ceremony, an event.
"We will now begin the ceremony for Mr. Shane Lancaster and Miss Violet Clark." I hate my last name, why did he put my last name in there? He could've at least used an alias. Oh well, I won't have to worry about that anymore. My new name will be Lancaster, and I'm fine with that.
"Now, I will read the bonds that they chose. Shane Lancaster has written his vows as written:
I vow to be a loyal, caring and supportive husband. I will take everything with my wife as serious as I take my job. I will forever put her first and love her with all my being. Do you take this vow into this marriage now Shane Lancaster?" The man questions seriously. I never knew half of those things he put on there. I didn't know that one of his main points would be loyalty. I think we both know that one won't be true. Shane stares into my eyes intently and puts on a sweet smile that I've never seen before. It makes him look kind and loving, the way I know he's been all along.
"I do." He answers without any hesitation or withdrawals. He doesn't stammer and he isn't entirely serious like he is when he speaks about business. He is kind and like he always has treated me, but he's never used this tone.
"Now I will read the bonds Violet Clark has written." The man says as he flips the page. Oh, I've already forgotten what I promised. I'm sure it is reasonable, and I'm sure I'll be able to live by it. I wrote it after all, and even a younger me knows me.
"I will be kind, loving and forever grateful to my husband. He has done much for me, and I just hope to help him with his long life. I promise to love Shane for the rest of my life, he's been so sweet and genuine to me ever since we met. I vow to be his wife as long as we both shall live, to love and to care for him and to be the best I can be. Through good and bad, sickness and health, I will stand by him as his wife. Forever and always. Do you take these vows into your marriage Violet Clark?" The man questions me. Ah, I remember now. That last line was Shane's little touch, to make me seem more dedicated than I actually am. I wanted to show our history, I thought it would make people feel for me a lot more. Instead of me being a pregnant whore who just dragged Shane into me. I wanted to show my reasoning, and why he was the one I chose. I had good reasoning and I wanted everyone to see that. My friends, my lovers, the citizens, even my unborn child. I want to be able to explain to her why I married Shane instead of her father, instead of the man I really love. Shane can do more for us than either of them ever could. He can give us a home, wealth and lots of power. He also has done a lot for me and my friends, I feel like this is the least I can do to repay him. That's why I married Shane instead of the others. That's why he is the one I ended up choosing over the other men in my life. I stare into Shane's eyes and glance back and Jack, who just nods at me happily. I take in a deep breath before I speak. These words are going to be some of the biggest words I'll ever speak. I stare at Shane with a smile on my face.
"I-" I'm interrupted by the loud bang of a gun being shot and a pain in my stomach.
