We walk along the highway, the sun is finally starting to rise over the horizon.
"So, I suppose that we should at least know one another's names if we're going to be here for a while." A member of the team says in a light Scottish accent.
"Oh, okay. I'm Violet in case you didn't know, not that I'm narcissistic or anything. It's just that I'm the first pregnant woman anyone has seen and people kinda know about me." I explain.
"Yeah, I've heard about you before. I'm Duncan. It's very nice to meet you." He says putting out hand for me to shake. I take it and firmly shake his hand.
"Nice to meet you too." I respond putting on a sweet smile.
"So, what friends are we looking for? As in, how you know them and a brief description." Duncan explains kindly. I nod at his demand and sigh just at the memory of them.
"Yeah. Well, I know them all differently. One that I'm close to is named Mark. He is the father of my child. He is sweet, strong, and very caring. He has brunette hair, almost black with calming, dark brown eyes. Mark has two friends that are with him too, Wade and Bob. They are both really tall and have always been nice to me. Wade is Marks best friend and I think it's been that way for years before this started. Wade has light brown hair and has helped us survive. Bob is probably the smartest of us all, he makes plans, splits rations and keeps us in order. He has brown hair too and is pretty close to Mark like Wade is. And then there's Emmet. I met Emmet under weird terms. I ran away from a complex alone and he was one of the first people I saw. He helped me to find my friends and I have a feeling that he has a secret crush on me, but I know that his heart belongs to Maddie and not me. He is kind and knows how to keep friends. He has kept a few things to himself that I've done and he is very kind. He has red hair and green eyes like mine." I finish with a breath if air going into my lungs once more.
"They sound like good guys and I hope we find them." Duncan replies sweetly, his hazel eyes looking into my green ones. I look away, back towards the road we walk on. I suppose that I would feel bad if I fell in love with another man. After all, I already am in love with two men that I can't choose over.
"What about you? What's your story?" I question, avoiding silence in the conversation.
"Well, I was on a plane to visit America when this all started. It crashed obviously and I learned how to survive pretty quickly. After a few weeks being alone, I found this confound and they let me in. Back then, Shane let in everyone who knocked on the door. But he learned that not everyone was who they said they were. A lot of people weren't good after this happened and a few people inside killed hundreds of us. After that, Shane made the teams and built the wall. Since I have experience using a gun and can live alone, he added me to a team. At that time all we did was roam the streets and act as security guards. But then food started to run out and we needed supplies, so we started going on runs like we do now. I've been doing that ever since and I probably will be for a long time." Duncan finishes with a bright smile placed on his face. Obviously he hasn't gone through extreme loss like I have. He looks like an innocent little kid with that face. I wish I was able to smile like that these days.
"So, do all of you have similar stories?" I question, glancing around at all the guys in the group.
"I actually have a pretty different one. I had my daughter to protect when this went down. Oh and I'm Fin. Pleasure to meet you." The thin one from before says as we shake hands.
"Nice to meet you, what happened next?" I question. Fin nods and starts walking next to me.
"I took her into the woods, as there weren't many people there and I thought it would be safe... Although I was wrong. A hoard from the city came and killed ny daughter. I was lucky to get out alive and I soon found the compound. The rest is similar to Duncan's story." Fin explains, I soon realize that he has a very faint British accent.
"My story is different from you all." A feminine voice says from behind me. I soon see a woman with tight armor and no hair come up next to me. Her bright blue eyes smile at me when she sees me.
"I'm Wendy by the way. As you can see, I had cancer and was going through chemotherapy. I had just finished my treatment when this started. I quickly got hang of using a sword as my sister tought fencing. But... Before I found this place she was killed by a few zombies when we were being chased. One day, after she died, I found a man just walking along the road. It was Shane, he helped me and we decided together to make the compound. He put me on the strongest team he had, after all, he knows how strong I really am. So, yeah, I guess that's about it." She finishes. I nod and watch pebbles move as I walk along the ground.
"What about the capatin?" I question, moving my head up to look ahead at him. Fin shakes his head and puts his finger over his lips in a way to say 'shh'.
"He hasn't ever told anyone. And if he hasn't told us, people he has fought with for years, I doubt he'll tell you." Wendy explains in a warning like tone.
"Do you know anything about him?" I question in slight shock. I know how people can be quiet, but the people they talk to just have to listen to know their story.
"His name is Tom, other than that we don't know much. He's kinda quiet about his life." Duncan says quietly. I nod, he must've had something happen, something that he doesn't want to talk about. That's the only real reason why he wouldn't talk about his life, but talk about everything else.
"Interesting." I mumble the word to myself. As we walk along the sidewalk, I can't help but wonder. Wonder what he did that he doesn't speak about. Wonder who might know. Maybe he didn't actually do anything, maybe it was someone else's fault. I'm not sure, but I know that his past is not my main focus. All I want is to find the friends that I've lost. All I want is to hold them all and protect them from anything in the outside world.
