~*9 Days Until The Wedding*~
Today, Shane has finally allowed me to leave from the house. I lace up my combat boots that I can't live without and throw on a jacket that hangs by the door.
"Have a good day, but be back if anything happens." Shane calls from the other room as I open the front door.
"Thanks, and I will." I respond back to him as I walk outside and feel the sun shine down on my pale skin. It feels like I haven't been outside I'm weeks when in reality it was only a few days ago. I breathe in fresh air and climb down the steps to head back to town. Once I'm finally down all the steps which I find unnecessary, I glance around with a smile on my face as I see someone I was looking for.
"Hey! Emmet!" I shout at him as I start to walk towards him with a smile that is growing by the second. His head turns with a look of confusion until his eyes lock on me and it is replaced with a smile.
"Hey, so, you're out now?" He questions, approaching me slowly.
"Yeah, I've gotten a lot better and Shane says that it will be good for me to be outside again. Especially because our wedding is so close, I want to be able to actually walk on my own down the isle." I say with a small chuckle.
"Makes sense... Do you want to see Maddie? She's been really worried about you lately." Emmet explains, glancing at my body that I just feel is torn and broken at this point. After all I've been through that's how I imagine myself, ragged and damaged on both the inside and out. I nod my head in an emotionless way.
"Yeah... I'll see her." I respond as my eyes stare blankly at the sky that now seems darker than normal. Rain will probably come soon then, it hasn't in a while after all.
"Okay, let's go then." Emmet says in a slightly confused tone. I nod, breaking my thoughts to follow him towards his home that he shares with Maddie. We walk up the steps to their home at a normal, casual pace. Emmet and I have never been very close, I just don't know him as well as I know others. We never had a time to bond or talk about ourselves like I have had with most others in our group. However, even with all that said, I trust him. Maddie has told me a lot about him and I feel as though I know him well enough to at least give him my trust.
"I have other business in the city, so I'm just gonna leave you here. Plus, I'm sure Maddie will want to talk with you for at least a few hours. See you around Violet." Emmet says as he cracks open the front door and passes me as he walks down the steps. I walk up the steps, not even responding to Emmet, he's probably already gone anyways. He walked away at quite a fast pace after all. I shrug it off and put my hand on the doorknob gently as I turn it, allowing my entrance.
"Hey babe, I'm in the kitchen making dinner!" I hear Maddie shout at me happily. I giggle lightly and walk inside the house.
"So I've raised my rank to babe... Wow I'm going up in the world now, huh?" I chuckle in response, slowly making my way towards the kitchen.
"Violet?" Maddie shouts in shock as she dashes towards me and pulls me into an embrace.
"Oh my god, what happened to you? All I heard was that you were in the hospital and then at Shane's and the reason I didn't visit was because... Well, I didn't know if you would want me just coming to your house. I also didn't know what state you were in and if you were accepting visitors. Even though Mark asked if I wanted to go with him when he went to see you, but I thought that he was special as he is your boyfriend and such. But I am really glad that you're here, so just sit down and I'll get you some tea. Or, can you have tea?" Maddie says, taking in a breath when she finally stops her ramblings.
"Yes, Maddie, I can have tea. And don't worry that you didn't visit me, I'm just glad to see you here now." I respond with a smile as I slowly back away to sit on the couch; well, more accurately I stumbled onto the couch as my legs are not very strong right now.
"Alright, then I'll start to tea and be back soon. I wanna hear about what happened." Maddie says as she walks away into the kitchen to start to water boiling.***
Maddie and I sit on her couch, sipping on sweet, hot tea just talking. We talk for hours, enjoying the company of one another. I then hear the door swing open and Emmet walks inside, looking exhausted.
"Hey babe, what happened?" Maddie questions, turning her attention to Emmet who just sits on the floor, leaning against the couch near her.
"I'm just tired... The captain had a presentation and I couldn't sit through it honestly." Emmet states with a heavy sigh as he closes his eyes and crosses his arms over his chest.
"Why not?" Maddie questions him in a tone that seems much darker than her usual cheerful one.
"Don't play dumb, you know why." Emmet says, opening his eyes only to stare up at her in annoyance.
"Oh... Have you told them yet? I mean, if you're going to be on a team, they need to know. And how do you plan on actually being on a team, I mean... If you're scared of the gun you're holding, then how can you pull the trigger if you're in danger? I just don't get it..." Maddie grumbles in an annoyed and slightly angered tone.
"You're joining one of the teams?" I question, sitting up more on the couch.
"Yes, well... Maybe..." Emmet stutters, shaking his head lightly as if he didn't understand his own thoughts to give me a strait answer.
"You can't... Not with your fear, not with all the time it will take away from us. You said when I first saw you again, that you would never leave me again... Remember that?" Maddie pauses, letting the information set in for him. "And... and... if you do this, then you'll be breaking that promise every other weekend when they make you go on runs. When they just decide to take you away from me, even if you might never come back... I can't do that again Emmet... Please don't join the team, for my sake and yours... Because if you do... I won't be with you anymore..." Maddie says, tears slowly dripping out of her eyes as she speaks.
"Okay. I won't join." Emmet states sternly, still staring up at Maddie while she sits on the ground.
"Good." Maddie responds as she takes her wrist and wipes all the tears off her face.
"I'm gonna go to bed, it's been a long day. Goodnight love, I'll see you in the morning." He says as he stands and kisses Maddie on the forehead lovingly. Emmet then glances at me and nods as if to say goodnight to me as well, but without words. And without another action, he walks out of the room and into their shared bedroom.
"I should be heading to bed too... I'll see you later Violet, I hope you feel better soon." Maddie says as she hops up from the couch and makes her way to follow in Emmet's footsteps. I nod and push myself to my feet as gentle as I'm able. My weak legs stumble when I finally stand and my breath hitches as I am about to fall, but catch myself before I do. I slowly make my way to the door and exit. Heh, the sun is still shining, I enjoy it though as I haven't been out here in quite a while. I walk down the street with a light smile on my face, I'm so happy to be outside.
