At lunch with Maria Hill
"How’s the S.H.I.E.L.D business going?" I ask her taking a bite of my salad.
"Its not a business..." she laughs. "And its going okay, things have been quiet a long while."
"Yeah, no exploding buildings and weird people flying around." I tease. "You talk to any of them since?"
"Natasha. I speak to your father because he and Mr. Banner help out a lot with research. You know about the Stark Expo this month, obviously?"
I suddenly find myself terribly interested in a lettuce leaf. "Um... yeah, sure."
"What's wrong, arent you going?"
"No, I dont think so. I..." I search for a possible excuse to avoid the Expo. "I dont have a date!"
SERIOUSLY? Well done, Danielle, just great. You dont have a date. What a pity. Could you be more of an idiot?
"I dont think thats a priority." she smiles. Its been a while since we caught up. She was the only friend who did not hang around me for money.
After Loki's invasion of earth, and after all that was sorted out, she admitted to me that although Loki may have been a little of a nut job, she admired his mind, his intellect. His love for culture and history. But I couldn't tell her. I could trust no one with my secret. I couldn't bear the idea of anything happening to Loki.
"I might come. Lets see, depends on how things work out." I looked at my watch. 4:45. And I only had a salad. Maria had a burger and was sipping on her drink, probably waiting for me to get on with it. I just had a lot to talk about!!
"I have a boring dinner party to attend." I told her, rolling my eyes. "Sorry to cut this short. But we should meet again sometime."
"Is the dinner why you cut back on lunch?"
"Are you kidding? I dont understand any of the sophisticated crap Mrs. Fear will be serving all of us..." I laugh. "Her house is the only place I love salad. The rest is dressed up shrimp and odd colors of whatever the fancy name for pasta is."
Maria laughed. "All right, I'll see you later."
I grabbed my bag, jumped into my car and drove. I passed by an Armani store and hit the breaks, looking long and hard at the store. Without giving my idea a second thought, i jumped out, ran in and came out a minute later with a bag and head home.
"Loki, hi!" I yelled as I walked in through the front door. "I have something for you!"
Loki appeared in front of me. I was getting used to this teleporting business now. I handed him the bag and he looked into it.
"What is it?" he looked at me. Damn, was it me, or did the confused expression look really sexy on him?
"Well, I have a boring dinner party to attend that i know I will die if I dont have the right company! So that..." i pointed to the suit I just got him. "is what you are wearing."
As i heard the words come out, i realised what a ridiculous request it was. I would have to stick to him the entire night incase he did something foolish, but I wasnt going to leave him alone a second. He wanted company. I wanted to provide it.
"I dont know if this is a good idea..." he looked again into the bag.
I KNOW its not a good idea! But do it anyways!
"Come on, it'll be fun. I'll point out all the people who are stuck up and annoying and we can make fun of them...!"
Jesus, Danielle, you're talking to a god, not an eight year old!
"Thor and I often did that as children." he chuckled. "If you insist, I shall come."
I hugged him and blew him a kiss on the cheek before I could stop my stupid self and ran up to get changed for the dinner. I picked out a faded pink one shoulder gown, diamond earrings, a thin gold bracelet and and a white clutch. I stared at myself in the mirror. Pink... ugh. Whats wrong with me? But I had no time to change. I grabbed my keys and head out my bedroom door.
"Danielle...." the voice came from the guest room. I walked in, and oh my god....
This man was made for an Armani suit. Did he know that? Does he know how fuckable he looks right now!? I giggle, shocked that I thought that, then bring myself back down to earth.
"Yeah?" i smile, forcing myself not to laugh.
"What am I to do with this!?" he held up the black tie.
"Oh, that hangs around your neck..." he instantly made a face. Bad choice of words. "I mean, not like hang you, just...." Just shut up, Danielle. PLease. I put the tie around the collar and tied it the way dad taught me, then adjusted it. I put down the shirt collar. Loki smelt....
No, dont go there.
"Okay, Loki." I step away and try to sound normal. "That name wont work on this planet, so we need a new name...." i stared at him. "Tom."
"Tom?" he scoffed. "What kind of a name is that?"
"Its short for Thomas.... Would you like that? Although people will start to call you Tom..."
"Thomas IS better." he smiled at me. I melted. "Shall we leave for the ball?"
"Its only a dinner, Loki... dont call it a ball..." I laughed . This was going to be fun.
"Thomas, my dear madam..." he whispered in my ear. His accent sent chills down my body. It was delightful.
