Journey to Áhkka (2)

Danielle's POV: 

"Áhkkà means 'goddess'!" I yelled over the sound of the helicopter. "And usually referred to as the Queen of Lapland!"

He looked as interested as a bumble bee in a football. I was starting to sound like a ridiculous tour guide who wont shut up. Thor stared out the helicopter into the white snow and tiny villages. 

The helicopter dropped us off at what seemed like NOWHERE, after saying they'd come the next day and I pulled out my maps to check and Thor restlessly looked about. 

"All right..." I pointed east. "There is a small village there called Gällivare... they will shelter us if we require it and ofcourse, nothing would make them happier." I turned and smiled at Thor. "They all worship you!"

He wasnt even listening, just staring at the mountains. "Which of these is Áhkkà?"

"See that lake?" His eyes followed to where I pointed. "That is Akkasjaure. It freezes in winters, but its not that cold in this time of year... across that is Áhkkà."

"We could get a boat."

"The people here will never lend their boats to go across that river. You forget that a giantess lives there. The elders here have made it clear to the whole village to never venture out there."

"Have any of them ever seen her?"

"Well... people who have say they dont wish to talk about it.....We cant say for sure, though..." I caught the look on his face. "Thor, I said its a long shot..."

"I know, I know, Danielle.... I just..." he trailed off. "Thank you." he suddenly stepped forward and hugged me. 

"Its okay, Thor..." I smiled and hugged back. "It's what friends are for." 

"You're family, Danielle." he held my face in his left hand and put his right on my shoulder, just the way he holds Loki when calling him "Brother". 

"Now..." he picked up the bag of food the helicopter left for us. "Lets pay the good people of Gällivare a visit!"

"W-what about Áhkkà!?"

"There is no rush. She lived there long enough!" he called from over his shoulder. "Keep up the pace, Jotun."

I grinned. Thor was back.
