ready to go- Chapter 14

Matt's pov 

I had a plan. We were staying in a quiet place right outside of Chicago. It's old-fashioned and just perfect for us. I'm so ready to just have this time. Everything is going to be good. I'm just ready to start this part of our life. I don't think about it much. I'm happy with us and what we have. I'm thankful for all of it. I just want it forever, and as long as we can. 

I had a couple hours left on shift then I was going to surprise Gabby. Shay looked at me " hey Casey!!" I looked up " hey.." She looked at me " when you guys leaving...?" I laughed " tonight... I'm going to go surprise her after shift.." 

The end of shift came, and Shay and Severide were lurking around me. They just wanted to know the details. I laughed " I see you too... but your not getting anything now.." Severide laughed " well just don't come back... until your engaged!" I nodded " that's the plan!" 

I was nervous. I'm never nervous. That's not really me. Even when I'm going through a burning building fear doesn't come to me. I'm just not thinking. I'm all doing. I walked into med and I saw the back of Gabby's head. She was with a patient. I just watched her work because this is her element. This is where she belongs. I saw that. Dr. Manning came up to me " hey... Matt!" I smiled " Hey....i'm just waiting for Gabby.." She smiled " yeah... this is just the end of the rush hopefully.." I nodded " yeah i'll just wait from here.." She smiled " of course... so what do you guys have planned.." I laughed " she told you..." She laughed " yeah.." I laughed " well she doesn't know... but just somewhere quiet..not here.... can you..?" She smiled " ya... I can keep a secret..!" I looked at her " well.. i'm gonna propose!" She smiled " that's so great... i'm sure she will love whatever you have planned!" I smiled I.. I sure hope!" Gabby came out " hey baby! what are you doing here..." I laughed " your shift's almost over... so I thought we would get out of here..." She smiled " yeah.. i'm done here... let me get my stuff!"
