Let's take a few seconds
To look around
And please do
Tell me what you see
Nine times outa ten
The person beside you
Has felt some type of way
Especially if their from and lived in
THE BLACK COMMUNITY
I'm shaking my head in dismal
If the roles
Were reversed
How would you feel
Young...
Black...
Male...
Locked up in a cell
Withdrawn from their family
The only people
Who really cared for them
Left in shambles
Our black role models
Died in vein
Way to many to count
Because now
There is blood being shed
Young black men
Being slain
And for what?
Violence
Guns
Lacerating
Our rough tough exterior
We kings & queens
Treating each other like peasants
Something I can't even come close
To understanding
The oppressors
Keeping the press on us
The world being heavy enough on us
But our strength coming from within
IT'S CALLED HEART
Their constantly underestimating us
Because of the pigmentation
In our skin
Is a little too dark for them
The language we speak... Judged
The mistakes we make
Thought to be as defeat
As if their ish don't stink
Our success is accidental
Minimizing our intelligence
Calling it potential
& don't let us voice our opinion
BECAUSE ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE
We are not defiant
Because we chose to be different
We refuse to allow you to constantly
Attack our characters
I remember praying to god
For understanding
Asking questions
That my mother could never answer
"Baby there are things you just won't understand no matter what"
She'd look me dead in the eyes
With fear in hers
And tells me your are a Princess
And a queen to be
Get a great education
Grow up to own your own business
Because no matter what you do
Your color will always be your greatest downfall
I remember the first time
I felt the color of my skin
I had no knowledge
Of the changes I was about endure
5th grade
I went to
Oakwood elementary
Lived in Lakewood Washington
Miss. Colleren
Was her name
I was mistreated by the teacher
Told I was over confident
Because I was taught
To believe In myself
A grown woman
Judging a child
Laid hands on me
And made me realize
My skin color
I AM NOT MY SKIN COLOR
We are not
The scum of the earth
Because of our skin completion
WE ARE NOT OUR SKIN
So many questions to ask
Our creator...
Young girls growing up
To hate the skin they live in
Coloring in their coloring books
Blonde hair
And blue eyed
Pictures
I'm feeling a little unappreciated
Don't lose yourself black little girl
White is a color that can be tainted
Black is so strong and beautiful
We are powerful
And just to let you know
They secretly
Want to be us
PAYING MONEY
To learn to move their bodies like ours
Forking out thousands of dollars
To enhance everything
They claim to hate about us
Wearing weaves in their hair
Tanning their skin
Trying to enrich the melanin
In their porcelain like epidermis
Take a long look in the mirror
Brother
You stand tall like a lion
Fearfully & wonderfully made
Beautifully intelligent
YOUNG BLACK BOYS
You are a
Inspiration to a nation
No an inspiration to this nation
Doing your best will never be enough
You have to strive
For perfection
To surpass the worlds expectations
Your faith is relevant
Not to mention prayer is needed
We are one of his greats creations
We're an even blend of all the colors of the rainbow
Dancing in the moon lit sky
Gracing this universe with our presence
We are important
We are people
We are black
We are beautiful
Strong minded
African Americans
