It was pitch black and I could see absolutely nothing besides the very dim light the street lights were giving off. I continued to run until I hit the park and found a bench to sit on. I finally got the chance to catch my breath and began to cry even harder and shake uncontrollably as I clutched at my face.

I didn't want to go back to that house. I couldn't go back. I needed to get away. I needed to find my sister.

I never fully shook my cring fit but I couldn't help but shiver from the cold and stood up to zip up my jacket up, pulling the hood above my head afterwards. I listened to the wind pick up. Snowflakes began to cover my hood and my hands, and I knew that if I didn't start moving I would get frostbite.

So I set off, hopelessy wandering around the vacant park. It wasnt until I got to the other side that I began to hear strange noises. Shuffling on the gravel.

I was forced to pick up speed and began to run again, until my body was hit full force by something hard. I jumped up and begin to scream loudly before my mouth was covered but a clothed hand.

"Shhh, I'm not going to hurt you sweetheart. You're okay," a soft voice filled my ears. I stopped stuggling and turned to see a short, blonde woman beside me. Her eyebrows were scrunched up and she contined to stare at me with, concerned.

I shivered again as the wind began to pick up even more and forced myself to smile at the woman reassuringly, "Um, sorry, ma'am. I was just... on my way home. It's kinda scary out here."

"You're telling me. Are you.. completely sure you're okay, though?"

I nodded my head, "Yeah, you just freightned me. I should go now."

I began to walk away quickly before a hand was placed onto my shoulders. The gesture felt all too familar and I was forced to fight the urge of breaking out into sobs once again.

"You can't walk out here like this. I won't let you. Just.. let me give you a lift home or something, yeah?"

I bit my lip as the thought ran through my mind. Would it really hurt?

"Alright."

...

We drove around aimlessly for an hour. I didn't know where I was going and continuously gave the woman pointless directions in search of a warm place to stay for the night.

After hearing the woman in the drivers seat sigh loudly for the tenth time I decided that it would be best to finally get out of the car before I was kicked out of it.

"Right here's fine. Thank you." I said quickly, trying to exit the car as fast as I could. Before I could open the door, the woman locked it.

I looked over at her curiously and anxiously, waiting for an explanation.

"Sweetheart," the woman frowned, "Do you.. know the directions to your house?"

I hesitated and slowly shook my head. Of course I knew them, but it seemed like the easiest way out of the situation and I wasn't going to pass up the oppurtunity.

The woman smiled at me warmly, "Would you like to stay with me for the night, then?"

Not my general idea of a warm place to stay but it was better than nothing. I glanced at the floorboard before looking up and nodding at her.

"I'm Demi."

"I'm Sam," I shrugged.

"It's very nice to meet you, Sam."

"You too."

...

I walked into the house awkwardly. It was cozy and very well furnished. The woman, Demi, had money, you could tell.
