BRAISED BEEF BRISKET
Game Four.
2 - 1. In favor of Yellow Jaguars.
Lunes at lahat ng tao sa eskwelahan ay ramdam na ramdam mo na ang kaba. Isang panalo pa ng Yellow Jaguars ay sila na ang tiyak na tatanghaling kampyon sa season na ito. Gaganapin ang laro sa home court ng mga Jaguars.
Tahimik akong nakaupo sa lamesa ng cafeteria at nagmumuni muni. Mula sa pagkakayuko ko sa pagkain kong kanina ko pa pinaglalaruan ay napatingin ako sa pasukan ng cafeteria. Saktong sa pagtingin ko ay ang pagpasok ng nakangiting si Nicccolo.
He was walking slowly and effortlessly like someone from a dream. His hands are slowly swaying on each side as he walked past the series of gawking and squealing girls wishing him good luck on his game. His eyes smiling. But was always only fixated on me. He was followed by his army of teammates. All big and well built like him. The earlier spacious cafeteria was now a miniature sight of what seemed to be an eating hall.
All the students eating at the adjacent table from mine scampered away from the coming giants. I was too stunned to move or might be too slow and heavy to stand and move away from the table like what everyone else did. Seems to me the Wolves are having their lunch right here, right now. Right at the very table I am eating at. I looked from left to right as I saw some members moving tables to join with the table I'm at. And they noisily sat down and shouted orders from the order counters.
I flinched when a chair to my right was pulled and there I saw sitting and still smiling the ever dashing Niccolo Arguelles.
I frowned a little at him as I met his gaze. Too awkward and shy to be surrounded by men or should I say giants.
'Anong ginagawa mo?' I mouthed.
"Na-miss kita." Bulong niya.
I bit my lip. I thought he understood the meaning of him being discreet. I eyed him accusing. It was like he's broadcasting to the whole school na may relasyon kami kahit wala naman.
On the corner of my eyes I saw some girls throwing disgusted looks at me. Some even whispering or even shaking their heads disbelievingly.
Sa kabilang gilid ng table ay nakita ko si Aries na nakangiti at kumakaway sa akin. Agad ko din naman siyang nginitian. Mabuti naman at okay na sila. Tinupad din ni Niccolo ang pangako niyang mag so-sorry siya.
Napailing ako sa kaharap kong si Niccolo na ngaun ay nakangiting naglalagay ng pagkain mula sa tray niya papunta sa tray ko.
"Kumain ka pa. Fourth game na namin mamaya. Para may lakas ka sa pag cheer mo sakin." Nangiti siya sa sariling tinuran saka kumindat sa akin at bumalik sa pagsasalin ng pagkain sa tray ko. Nakita kong braised beef brisket ang ulam na binili niya na isa sa mga pinag pipilian ko kanina. Hindi naman ako makatanggi dahil gusto ko din naman yung pagkain.
