I opened my eyes and saw that Heidi had bitten Seth. I struggled against Jane, not caring if I lost my breath, and tried to get to him.

He stopped moving.

Jane turned to me, with a furious look on her face.

I glared back at her, still trying to get to Seth.

The next thing I knew, it was pitch black and I was floating off.

*

I woke with a start.

My wrists were tied behind my back, and my ankles were tied.

Gasping, I looked around.

There were a few dozen candles lighting up the room, but it was still dark.

Seth was lying next to me.

"Seth?" I whispered.

I heard a laugh and looked around.

"There's no need to whisper." Jane said, walking out of the shadows. She had her cloak's hood pulled over her head. She smiled.

"What do you want with us?" I asked, not looking at her.

"I don't want anything with you; Aro does."

"Well, then…what does Aro want with us?" Seth was still passed out.

"He…" she started walking around Seth and I. I trailed her feet with my eyes. "wants…you to join us."

"No!" I said. Seth twitched and whimpered.

"Well, seeing as you and your pet are tied up, I think…you have no choice."

"Seth is not my pet." I said, my voice rising.

"He…turns into a…dog, does he not?"

"No. He phases into a wolf." I clenched my teeth.

"Uh huh. Whatever you say." She walked off.

"Wait! Where are you going?"

"To get Aro." Her laugh was accompanied with the clack of her mary janes.

"For what?"

"To change you."

*

"Seth!" I said. "Seth, honey, you have to wake up!"

It was no use. He just laid there.

"Seth, please!" I started crying. "You have to wake up! I need you!"

I put my forehead on his shoulder, still crying.

I had forgotten that I still had Aro's gift.

And I apparently didn't have to touch the person with my hand to know their every thought.

I felt more than saw some of his thoughts that I had already seen earlier.

His love for Sarah. His joy when he imprinted on me. His surprise at my reaction, and how much he had grown to love me since then.

Then…the pain he felt when Heidi bit his neck.

I gasped, jerking away from him.

"No!" I whispered. I looked at the other side of his neck.

There was a large bite wound on it.

"No!" I yelled.

All Seth did was jerk, still unconscious.

"No, no, no!" I said over and over. "Seth! You can't be dead! I need you!"

I started sobbing uncontrollably.

"Seth." I said repeatedly. "Seth, please. I need you."
