My head was swimming in confusion, floating in exhaustion, and sinking in pain.
I couldn't open my eyes.
But my ears were already open.

Aleena gasped, and I felt her look around.
"Seth?" she whispered.
I heard a laugh, but could do nothing.
"There's no need to whisper." Jane said.
"What do you want with us?" Aleena asked.
"I don't want anything with you; Aro does."
"Well, then…what does Aro want with us?" I was still trying to open my eyes, move, anything to defend Aleena against that…witch.
"He…wants…you to join us."
"No!" she said.
I suddenly remembered Heidi biting my neck.
My neck convulsed in pain at the memory, causing me to whimper.
"Well, seeing as you and your pet are tied up, I think…you have no choice."
Pet?
I wondered, still not able to do anything.
"Seth is not my pet." She said, her voice rising.
"He…turns into a…dog, does he not?"
"No. He phases into a wolf."
"Uh huh. Whatever you say."
"Wait! Where are you going?"
"To get Aro." Her laugh was accompanied with the clack of her mary janes.
"For what?"
"To change you."
*
"Seth!" Aleena said. "Seth, honey, you have to wake up!"
It was no use. I couldn't do anything.
"Seth, please!" she started crying. "You have to wake up! I need you!"
She put her forehead on my shoulder, still crying.
That's when it clicked.
She still had Aro's gift.
I could use my thoughts to get her to help me.
Just as I was about to, though, she jerked away.
"No!" she yelled.
All I could do was jerk, making her think I was still unconscious.
"No, no, no!" she said over and over. "Seth! You can't be dead! I need you!"
She then started sobbing uncontrollably.
"Seth." she said repeatedly. "Seth, please. I need you."
I kept trying to open my eyes.
For Aleena's sake, I had to open my eyes.
I had to protect her.
