I sat beside Alice in the Porsche. She had the music blaring loudly where I couldn't even hear myself yelling at her, asking her to turn it down. She finally turned it down when she saw me plugging my ears the best I could.

"I'm sorry. Was that too loud?" she asked, not looking at the road.

"Yeah, kind of. Umm, can you please watch the road?" I asked, getting nervous.

"Oh. Sorry. I've been down this road millions of times, so I know it like the back of my hand." She laughed at what seemed like an inside joke. She turned back to face the road, glancing at me every now and then.

"Yeah, well, I don't." I replied.

She laughed.

I could feel my excitement grow as we turned down the green driveway, the greenway, as I called it in my head. I don't know why I was excited, I just was. It felt like something good was going to happen, and I couldn't explain how I knew.

We pulled in the garage. I followed Alice in the house, through the kitchen, back into the living room.

I recognized everyone there, except for the boy in the painting back in my room. He was glaring at the floor, like he didn't want to be there. It gave me a chance to study his profile. Alice had gotten everything correct in the painting.

Jacob cleared his throat and said, "Aleena, this is Seth." He looked directly at Seth when he said the rest.

"Seth." The boy looked up at Jacob. "This is Aleena."

He looked up…and didn't look away.
