Jason's pov

"Is there a dad in the picture?" "Other than you, no." My hands tense up. Other than me? "What do you mean other than me?" "Well I'm pretty sure you know how much you've helped her. She loves you, Jason." Wow. I... I didn't know. "Her dad lost a custody battle when she was a kid and hasn't called since. I just thought he didn't give a shit."

Miranda's pov

I wake up in an unfamiliar bed. My IV is gone. Oh no! That means... The pain will return. The door opens. A man with a mustache and a cigar stands there. "W-What.. W-Who are you?" He taps some ashes off onto the floor. "Oh your mother must not have told you about me." I shake my head confused. "I'm your father, Miranda." My hands tense up. "M-My f-father?" He nods. "I deserve to see you too, don't I?" I shakily nod. "B-But I n-need my medication or I'll die. I've got cancer dad!" "I know you do sweetie but you're dying. It doesn't matter." "What?! Of course it does!! Without my medicine, the pain is unbearable!!!" Just as I say that, my arms and legs start vibrating with intense uncontrollable pain. I scream bloody murder and he sits beside me. "Shh shh. Calm down it'll be okay." "It hurts so bad." I whimper. Mom and Jason will find me.... I hope. I fade into unconsciousness.

Jason's pov

"Sweetheart, do you by any chance know where Miranda's father lives?" "I know where he lived before, I don't know if he still lives there. Why?" "Because something in my gut is telling me to find him. If we find him, we find her." "I doubt he kidnapped her. I mean how would he even know where to find her?" "I don't know but I've always followed my gut and it's never steered me wrong before." She gives me his address and I drive over there, hoping and praying he still lives there.

Miranda's pov

"Daddy please... It hurts... I need my medicine." "I can't leave you though to get it. There's a knock on the door. He tenses up, ragefully. "Wait, dad!" I cry, struggling to lift my arm. "I'm sorry. I've gotta go take care of someone." He's supposed to be taking care of me and he's doing a sucky job at that.

Jason's pov

I kick the door down, enraged. Sierra's right about one thing. That little girl is like a daughter to me and I'm going to find her if it kills me. A man with a mustache walks into the hallway. "Where's Miranda?" I growl enraged. "Who are you? And how do you know my daughter?" "I'm her mother's boyfriend and she went missing from the hospital. You're slowly and agonizingly killing her. She needs to be at the hospital!" "Why does it matter? She's gonna die anyway." He gripes, crossing his arms. My anger gets the better of me and I slam him against the wall, my pistol in his face. "You don't know shit about her! She's in pain! She needs the hospital that's why the fuck it matters because she's dying!"

Miranda's pov

I knew it. I'm dying! I sob quietly into my hands. The door slams open. Jason! I can't move let alone get up. My body screaming with pain with each movement. "Don't move, princess, I've got ya." "Everything hurts." I whisper. He picks me up. "I'll get you back to the hospital." We go to his truck and mom's here. "How'd you know?" She gapes. He straps me in but I can barely stay awake. Mom gets in the back with me. "Like I said before darlin', a cowboy's gut never lies." We get back to the hospital but I fall unconscious.

Jason's pov

Sierra gets her wheelchair. "I got her." I say, picking her up. She jerks slightly. I get her back to her room and the doctor puts her IV back in.

*four hours later*

"Daddy?" I wake up hearing her say that. "He's gone... Isn't he?" "Yeah, he won't come near you again." "I... I heard what you said.... I'm dying.... I'm not gonna make it... I won't go to prom... I won't get married.... How long do I have?" It kills me to say this. "Less than a month. That's why I'm here. I'm gonna take care of you and your mother." "I don't want to die." The doctor walks in along with Sierra. "Here's something to help your muscles so you can walk around again." Why didn't he give that to her sooner.

*a few days later*

Miranda's pov

The muscle strengthener helped big time. I can walk to the bathroom by myself. I was reading a book I love called To kill a mockingbird. I haven't gotten to read it by myself in months. Mom and Jason walks in. I know he likes my mom. Normal make a wish things you do one day but he stayed. Mom hugs me. "I'm so proud of how brave you are." The doctor calls mom so she goes.

Jason's pov

"I know you like mom." I smile. "I don't like your mom." "Yes you-" "I love your mom." Her eyes go wide. "You do?" "Yeah." "Can I... Can I call you dad? I've..... I've never had a dad before." "You do now." A bed with a boy is wheeled in. "Hey Miranda I hope you don't mind a roommate?" The doctor says. "It's cool with me." "Hey." The boy says waving. Then his eyes went wide. "You're Jason Aldean!" "I reckon you're a fan." He nods. "I been listenin' to your music forever. The name's Johnny." He says, holding a hand out. I shake it.

Miranda's pov

"And this beautiful young woman must be your daughter?" He asks, making me blush. Dad smiles and nods. "She's real pretty sir." Wow. He thinks I'm pretty. "My name's Miranda." I say shyly. Dad smiles and hugs me. "I'm gonna see what's keeping your mother." He slips out. Johnny stares at the ceiling. "Hey do you have a boyfriend?" "I've never had a boyfriend. Who would wanna take some bald girl on a date?" "I would." I blush big time. He sits up. "Ya wanna go out with me?" "I can't leave the hospital." "Hm. I'll be right back." He leaves. Probably wanting to get his room changed now.

Jason's pov

I told Sierra about what she said about prom and getting married. Just then her new roommate walked down. "I wanna take her out on a date but she can't leave the hospital." "Hm... I've got an idea." I whisper, smiling.
