She looked around, “Did you do all this?”
“Err…yes.” He said.
“It’s lovely.” She smiled, Dan didn’t know how close to tears she was, how shaky she felt or how much she wanted to run away, it was all hidden by that smile.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Dan put his hand on her shoulder, she flinched.
“I’m just a little tense, I’ll be fine.” She said.
He was going to hug her but she walked into the bedroom.
Florence opened up the window and took some air in.
Dan looked at her; she didn’t realize he was there.
She wiped the tears of her face and took deep breaths.
Dan knew she needed time alone, he would ask another time and so he went into the living room and sat there hoping she’d come in.
After half an hour she shuffled in. Dan looked at her.
Her eyes were very red and the skin around her shoulder was irritated because she’d picked at it. She looked him in the eyes and started crying.
Dan got up immediately and she walked into his arms.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know, I think I had a panic attack.”
“Why?”
She didn’t like the questions, she cried more.
“Please, just hold me and we’ll watch that film together.” She said.
Dan nodded and she lay against him on the sofa under the quilts.
He kissed her head.
“You know I love you.” He said.
She nodded and kissed his hand.
She snuggled up to him and they watched the film.
Dan looked at her numerous times, he was worried.
