"If you refuse to put up a protection spell, fine. Why don't you show me your skills in some other way. Diego come here!" Marcel commanded, his eyes focused on Evangeline's form as Diego stepped forward. "Take him down."

Evangeline's eyes lit up, and she could sense a bit of nervousness coming from the younger vampire. "With pleasure."

In an instant, she flicked her wrist and Diego fell, his body crumpling to the ground.

"I meant letting him give up more of a fight." Marcel sighed, turning to Ethan, who stood in the doorway of the compound. "Go get four other guys and meet me back here in two minutes."

"I'll take them down too. You saw how easy it was for me yesterday."

"Alright, big shot. Take them down no problem, then I'll let you keep to yourself the rest of the day."

Evangeline's ear's peeked at his words. "How do I know you're not just playing me?"

"Don't trust me yet?" Marcel chuckled seeing Evangeline raise an eyebrow. "Okay, fair enough. I promise I will not play any tricks on you. Once you defeat Ethan and the rest of the guys he's picked out for you to fight, you are free to be on your own for the rest of the day. I am, after all, a merciful man, and I believe you do deserve some time to yourself."

She watched his facial expressions as he spoke, but didn't catch any signs of dishonestly poking through. After letting out a sigh, Evangeline slowly nodded her head in agreement just as Ethan stepped back into view with Travis and three others.

"Marcel." Ethan stood proudly, catching his leader's attention. "I've brought some of your best men."

"Good." Marcel nodded, a small smile appearing upon his lips. "Are you all ready to fight against Evangeline?"

"I'm more than ready, Marcel!" Travis chuckled, clenching his fists. "After the fuss that she's caused, I'm ready for her to feel pain."

"You're so confident." Evangeline chuckled. "It's pathetic."

Travis snarled, taking a step towards her with his fangs extended, but he was soon yanked back by Ethan.

"Travis." Marcel warned. "I understand you're frustrated but remember, she is a child. Play nice."

"I get you have a thing about children, Marcel but she's technically a child forever since you turned her. Doesn't that count for anything?"

"What's your point? That I'll be seventeen years old forever?" Evangeline snarled angrily.

"Her age when she turned doesn't matter, Travis. She's still a child."

"But Marcel-" Travis began, but Marcel shut him up with a harsh growl.

"I said play nice, Travis!"

"Okay."

Evangeline snickered, thinking it was hilarious how quickly Travis submitted towards Marcel. She knew his warriors were loyal, but she didn't know he could take even the most rowdy ones.

"So are we fighting or what?" She asked, already itching to use her magic against the vampires who were about to be shown up.

"Alright, Evangeline. On the count of three, I want you to take my guys out, and remember, no neck snapping."

"Ugh, fine. You're no fun."

Evangeline turned towards the four vampires who were creeping towards her, each one on high alert. The first one to come at her was a young vampire with light blonde hair, striking green eyes and an impressive build. He snarled at her, his fangs glistening from the soft light of the compound's lanterns, and the veins underneath his eyes becoming more prominent. In a split second, Evangeline thought up a takeout plan. She swung her left arm from the right side of her body, to the far left side, creating a large gust of wind, which was easy to pull from the storm that was brewing throughout the city already. The wind blew at the vampire's clothing, momentarily phasing him before she curled her pointer finger and watched as he groaned in pain, his hands flying to his knee as he stood before her. Seconds later, a loud and grimacing crack was heard from the vampire's body, and he fell forward, his arms wrapped around his lower thigh and a look of pain across his face. Evangeline glanced back at Marcel, who held a disapproving look.

"What?" She scoffed. "I didn't snap his neck. I just messed around with his bones a little. Nothing that can't be snapped back into place."

"I didn't want you to torture my men." Marcel sighed.

"You wanted to see what I can do, well this is nothing. If you wanted to see real power, you're not going to get it by using these pathetic men you call warriors. No matter how much you will try to send my way to catch even a glimpse of my full potential, I will always be holding back, for the fear I know you have inside you that's afraid of what I might be able to do, is something that brings me joy. It makes me not hate every moment that I'm here. You will never know what I truly am capable of, no matter how many vampires you send my way."

"We'll see about that." Marcel challenged. "Ethan, again."

Ethan gestured the next guy to step forward, this one even bigger than the last, but Evangeline wasn't fazed. She rolled her eyes, curling her fingers at an achingly slow pace as the vampire howled in pain, clutching his skull and falling to his knees. He continued to cry out until Marcel stepped up.

"Alright, enough."

"What? You wanted to see me take them down and now you're telling me to stop? Way to go back on your word." She sassed, earning a dark glare from Marcel.

"I've seen enough."

"Only three guys? I thought I would've had to go through more."

"No, we're done for today. You're free to go back to your room."

Evangeline gave him a weary look before turning on her heel and walking up the stairs back to the upper level. When she got to the doors, she took one more glance down at Marcel, who was busy taking care of the men that she had dropped. When she was sure what he said wasn't a lie, Evangeline headed back to her room, ready to stay away from all the vampires in the compound for the rest of the day.
