Killer Instincts

Who You Are by Jessie J
-After Kol had departed for his week long trip, and the Mikaelson family all sat down at the kitchen table and had breakfast together. It was something that they had not done in a very long time. Evangeline smiled as she sipped her cup of tea, watching Rebekah and Klaus joking about something. Elijah was watching his siblings as well, trying to think of the last time he saw them happy. Freya grinned as she observed Elijah holding his baby girl in his arms with a proud expression. Even Hayley was glad to see Elijah and the rest of the Mikaelsons happy. The world may have been falling apart outside, but inside the house, everything was perfect.
Until Evangeline's eyes suddenly rolled to the back of her head and she hit the table with a loud thud.
Rebekah screamed as Elijah jumped up immediately, handing Cara off to Hayley. He moved to catch Evangeline as she slipped from her chair, her head rolling to the side. The plate in front of Evangeline's seat was cracked and a few of the crystal glasses had shattered from the impact of her hitting the table. As Elijah moved to sit on the floor, cradling Evangeline in his lap, he looked up at Freya in horror.
"She's having another vision!" Freya whispered frantically, moving to wipe the bloodied wound on the young vampire's forehead. "I didn't think it possible, but this is more violent than the last!"
"Stop it!" Elijah cried out, watching Evangeline's head rock side to side as her body began to convulse. "I don't know if she can go through this again!"
"What the hell is going on?" Hayley cut in, trying to calm Cara, who had began to cry from all the commotion. "What's happening to her?"
"Evangeline's mother has been sending her visions." Klaus explained. "It was nothing at first, but each one seems to be more life threatening than the last."
"No!" Evangeline let out a piercing scream.
"Pull her out, Freya!" Elijah yelled in a panic.
"No. No! No! No!" Evangeline's face moved into a painful expression as she jerked in his arms.
"Freya!" Elijah growled. "Now!"
"I am!" Freya yelled back, sending her brother a harsh glare as she bent down to place her fingers against Evangeline's temples.
Before the Mikaelson witch even had a chance to do anything, Evangeline's eyes snapped open and everyone froze.
"Evangeline?" Elijah whispered as she looked up at him. "Baby, hey, it's me."
The vampire's eyes widened as she scrambled away, sending a chair flying to the side of the room. While she looked around widely with tears threatening to spill, there was sadness and confusion present in her eyes.
"Where's my daughter?!" Her voice was full of emotion when she found Cara in Hayley's arms.
Getting to her feet, Evangeline took Cara from the hybrid and moved to retreat down the hall, stealing one more glance at Elijah.
"Baby?" He asked, attempting to step towards her. "What's wrong?"
"Get away from us!" Evangeline cried out, backing up as she pulled Cara against her.
In seconds, she had turned on her heel and disappeared up the stairs. While the Mikaelsons all stared at each other wondering what she had seen, Evangeline raced into the bedroom that she shared with Elijah and locked the door. After putting Cara in her crib, she moved to spell the door, making sure that no one could get through unless she permitted them to. When she was confident her barrier was strong enough, she finally turned her back to the door and sank down to the floor. The tears she had been holding back broke like a dam, streaming down her face as she sobbed uncontrollably.
All she could think about was that vision. All she could hear was the sound of her mother's desperate pleas before Elijah killed her. The same voice that had told her stories when she was just a child. The person who, despite her wrongdoings, was still her mother. As Celesté's screams of pain filled her ears again, Evangeline began to cry harder. She didn't want to mourn, but she found herself needing to. Flashes of what she had seen passed through her vision again, the image of Elijah stabbing her mother in the stomach making her want to throw up. Soon enough, she rushed into the bathroom with just enough time to vomit into the toilet. Sinking onto the tile floor with her forehead pressed against the toilet, she sighed when Cara began to cry in the other room. Pulling herself up to her feet, she moved to pick up her daughter, rocking her back and forth. Cara calmed quickly in her mother's arms. Evangeline pressed a gentle kiss on her baby's head and sobbed quietly, trying not to disturb Cara as she fell asleep.
Evangeline held her for what felt like hours, rocking back and forth as she cried. She couldn't stop crying, no matter how hard she tried to. It was like every emotion that she had pushed down since her mother had died had been reopened up like an old wound. The emotions were overwhelming. The only thing keeping her somewhat grounded was Cara, sleeping soundly in her arms. Staring down at her beautiful daughter, Evangeline found herself saddened when she continued to have thoughts of Elijah. He had followed her upstairs, discovering her barrier and pleading to let him in. She knew he had no idea why she was upset, but it made her wonder if he was ever going to tell her. And if he was, than why did he wait so long?
Every so often she would hear him talking to her, trying to get her to open up the door. Eventually, he got so persistent that she blocked the sound from the room. It was better for them both. She couldn't hear him and Cara could sleep.
Rebekah would also come up, and even Klaus did a few times. She knew everyone was worried, and she almost felt bad for leaving them in the dark. But, if Elijah had killed her mother, chances are, they all knew. And the fact that they all kept it from her hurt even more.
What was the point of being a part of a family if no one could be honest, especially something like this. Evangeline didn't know whether to be sad, confused, or infuriated.
As she placed Cara in her crib, kissing her goodnight, Evangeline curled up in an empty bed, bunching the sheets around her exhausted body. When her eyes closed, the vision still danced around in her mind, the images and the sounds echoing on an endless loop. She sighed deeply, knowing it was going to be a long night.
