"You will give my friend, here, a drink free of charge."

Evangeline watched Elijah carefully, his brown eyes dilating as he stared intently at their waiter. The moment the young man nodded and quickly left, she leaned back in her chair and rolled her eyes.

"Elijah, that wasn't necessary. I don't need a free drink."

"I was just showing you how it's done." He chuckled, watching her eyebrows knit in annoyance.

"But you can't use compulsion to get free stuff. It's just not right."

"And using compulsion to get people to do what you want is right?"

"That's not what I meant-" Evangeline huffed, but Elijah cut her off.

"Then what did you mean?" He leaned in close, resting his forearms against the table.

"I, uh-"

Evangeline was suddenly interrupted when their waiter returned and handed them both their drinks. He then handed Elijah his check and hurried away. The two vampires silently sipped from their glasses. During times when the other wasn't looking, one would steal glances and admire from across the table. They continued to do this for twenty more minutes before both had fully finished their drinks.

"I think it's about time we head back." Elijah finally broke the silence.

Evangeline nodded, standing from her chair and walking with him towards the entrance. The moment that they opened the door, they were met with a vicious downpour. Evangeline gasped as a streak of lightening lit up the sky and thunder rumbled soon after.

"How are we going to get back in this?" She asked timidly.

"We aren't." Elijah replied, shaking his head. "We're going to have to find a place to stay for the night."

"What?" Evangeline gasped, the thought of having to sleep in the same hotel room as Elijah entering her mind.

"Come on, let's get to the car."

Evangeline followed closely behind Elijah as they ran through the parking lot, their clothes becoming drenched with water. As they slid into the car, Evangeline sat down in the seat and winced at the feeling of her pants squashing beneath her. When she glanced over at Elijah, she laughed, seeing the water pooling from his hair onto his face like a waterfall. Elijah looked back over at her and laughed himself, running his fingers through his hair to push back the water.

It only took a few minutes on the road for them to find a small hotel. They exited the car quickly, their bodies becoming even more soaked, and raced into the hotel lobby looking like a couple of washed up dogs.

"Hello, we'd like a room please." Evangeline greeted the lady at the front desk, her teeth chattering.

"Of course, oh you poor thing. Did you have to run through the rain?"
