Staring down at the face of her daughter, Evangeline felt tears well up in her eyes. She was so beautiful. So small. A chocked sob of happiness slipped from the young vampire's lips as she clutched the baby closer. She could feel Elijah pressed against her from behind, his breath hot on her cheek as he leaned over her. Breaking away from her gaze on their daughter, she glanced back at him. The way he stared at the little bundle in her arms was mesmerizing. She couldn't help but break out into a grin. He was completely enamored.

"She's so beautiful." Rebekah whispered, tears glistening on her cheeks.

"She looks just like Elijah when he was born." Freya commented with a small laugh. "She's got his cheeks."

"She's perfect." Elijah spoke for the first time in minutes.

Evangeline looked back up at him, meeting his warm eyes. He leaned down to place a sweet kiss on her lips and proceeded to lay a few more on her cheeks and forehead.

"I'm so proud of you, my darling." His voice was hushed in her ear. "You are absolutely astonishing."

After pecking him on the cheek, she shifted the baby in her arms, rotating to face Elijah.

"Do you want to hold her?"

Elijah's eyes widened and immediately he nodded his head. Evangeline moved to the side to make room for him next to her, slowly sliding their daughter into his arms. The baby shifted slowly, stretching out her tiny little fingers as her father cradled her against his chest. Evangeline felt her head fall back against the pillow behind her as she began to register just how exhausted she was. Watching Elijah talk softly to the baby, she felt her eyes fluttering from the need of sleep. To her right, she spotted the Mikaelson siblings all inching near the hall. Looking up to meet Freya's eyes, the witch sent her a tilt of the head towards the door. Evangeline gave her a knowing nod and they proceeded to exit the room. The bedroom was silent except for Elijah's quiet voice. She looked back at him with a loving gaze before pressing her cheek against the pillow. Not long after, sleep overtook her.

Evangeline woke up slowly, stretching her sore muscles. As she rotated in the bed, she found Elijah cradling their sleeping daughter. The sight made her feel warm and tingly. When he looked over, finally noticing that she was awake, he leaned over and kissed the top of her head.

"Hi, baby."

"Morning." She mumbled, yawning.

"It's still night, believe it or not." He chuckled softly.

"How long was I asleep for?"

"Only a few hours." Elijah responded.

"Has she fussed at all?" Evangeline moved to get closer. "We'll have to wake her soon to eat."

"Not at all. She's so quiet and calm."

"She really is your daughter." Evangeline gave a small laugh.

"She's already got your smile." Elijah murmured.

"She already smiled? I missed it?!"

"No," He laughed quietly. "But I know when she's able to, it will light up an entire room. Just like her mother."

"I love you." Evangeline whispered, nuzzling against Elijah and draping her arm across their daughter. "I love you both."

When morning came, The Mikaelson family waited patiently in the kitchen. Elijah had declared that he and Evangeline had an announcement and everyone was waiting in bated breath.

"I bet you it's the name." Rebekah grinned as he leaned against the counter. "Any guesses?"

"Hope." Kol chimed in, receiving sharp glares from both Hayley and Klaus. "What? Only enough room for one in this family?"

"I like Iris." Freya smiled. "I've always wanted to name my daughter that."

"Regardless what they choose, I'm sure it will be beautiful." Rebekah grinned as Evangeline and Elijah entered the room.

Elijah was cradling the baby in his arms as he looked up at his family with a sense of pride.

"So?" Kol asked hopefully. "What's the big surprise?"

"We've decided to call her Carina Rose Mikaelson."

"Cara for short." Evangeline added. "It means beloved."

"It's perfect." Rebekah replied, tears filling her eyes. "My little niece, Cara."

"I'm so happy for you both." Freya leaned over and kissed the side of Evangeline's cheek.

As the family proceeded to take turns holding Cara, Kol pulled Elijah and Evangeline aside.

"I was going to go for a week to visit a friend in Chicago, but I know you just had the baby, and-"

"It's okay, Kol." Evangeline replied. "Go. Have a fun trip."

"Are you sure? If you two need me here, I can totally stay."

"Elijah and I will be fine." She shook her head. "And if even if we aren't, we have two hybrids, an original vampire, and a witch. I think we'll be okay."

"If you're sure."

"I am. Go to Chicago."

"I guess I'll go pack, then." Kol grinned, rushing upstairs.

When he returned minutes later, he placed a sweet kiss on Cara's head and moved to say goodbye to everyone else.

"Be safe, brother." Klaus reminded him. "With everything going on, Marcel is still on high alert for this family."

"I'll be careful. Besides, you guys have to keep my little niece here safe." Kol replied, looking over at Cara. "Be a good girl, little one. When I get back, you and Uncle Kol are going have some fun."

As he turned to leave, he sent a dramatic wave goodbye to the family. Little did he know, it was the last time he'd see them all together.
