A shadow flashed by Evangeline as she stood alone in the forest, her senses heightened. The moment he passed by, she knew, and her hair practically stood on end. Swiftly turning to face towards the sound, her eyes scanned the area, searching for him among the trees. After completing a full circle, she finally spotted his relaxed form leaning against a tree behind her.
"Given up already?" She teased, making her way towards him with a smile on her face.
"I guess I'm just surprised at how quickly you learn." Elijah responded.
As she neared where he stood, Elijah suddenly flew from his spot against the tree and swung behind her. He grabbed Evangeline by the waist, rushing her up and against the same tree that he was leaning on moments before. As he pinned her wrists above her head, he leaned in close enough so that his hot breath fanned across her face. Evangeline shivered.
"Lesson one. Always be on your guard, even after you think the match is over."
Evangeline nodded, not daring to say a word. Elijah kept her pinned against the tree for a few more moments before releasing his hold. As he stepped back, Evangeline suddenly whipped around him and grasped his wrists, attempting to pin him against the tree like he had to her. However, Elijah was older and faster, realizing what she was up to seconds after she made her move. He yanked his wrists out of her hold before once again capturing her hands with his.
"Nice try." Elijah smirked. "But you're not ready to beat me yet."
"I'll get there." Evangeline responded, pulling her hands from his grasp and turning to head back towards the house.
Before she could reach the path back, Elijah was suddenly in front of her, blocking the way.
"Hey, what are you doing?" She asked in a confused tone.
"We're not going back." He replied, simply nodding for her to follow as he headed to the right.
"Then where are we going?" Evangeline called after him, but received no answer in response.
After walking for a few minutes, they finally reached Elijah's car on the side of the road. Evangeline stood and watched as he unlocked it, and got in the front seat. Elijah noticed that she wasn't moving, and rolled down the window.
"Evangeline, get in the car."
"Where are we going?" She asked, lifting her foot to move, but rather deciding to stay put.
