Evangeline awoke with a start, her eyes darting around to find her sights set on a cream colored ceiling. For a few moments, she could hear only silence, but a loud knocking caused her to jolt upwards. Evangeline found herself sitting in a bed. After taking in her surroundings, her eyes met the tall form of Marcel Gerard as he stood in the doorway of the room, a glass of scotch in his hand.
"I'm glad to see you're awake. You were out for quite some time."
"Where am I?" Evangeline snapped, clutching the sheets in her fingers as he stepped closer.
"Now, now, relax, I've just brought you back to the compound, like I said I would. There's no need to get antsy and don't even think about using your magic on me again." Marcel warned, putting his forefinger up to stop her lips, which had begun chanting, from saying anything further.
Evangeline was restless, shifting uncomfortably in the bed as Marcel plopped himself down in a chair opposite of her.
"Now, tell me, darling. What is your name?"
"Why should I tell you?" She hissed. "You'll only use it against me."
Marcel grabbed the arms of the chair and pulled himself up to sit straighter. "Love, we already established that you work for me now. I suggest that you simply just answer my question without causing anymore problems. It would make everything else a lot easier."
"If you haven't learned by now, I'm not one to give in easily. If you want my name, you'll have to find out yourself."
"I already know your name, Evangeline." He sighed, eyes meeting the alcohol in his glass.
"What? How-"
"Thierry pulled your wallet from your pocket when you were out. I needed information on you, so I had him do a bit of snooping."
"How dare you-"
"Quiet down." Marcel hushed. "You didn't obey me the first time, so now I do things my way."
Evangeline narrowed her eyes at the older vampire, giving him a death glare. Just as she was about to shout a bitter comeback, Thierry stepped into the room, his hands holding the small backpack that she had carried with her everywhere. Evangeline's heart began to race.
Had they looked through her backpack? And if so, did they find it?
Marcel noticed Thierry standing quietly in the doorway, before his eyes flicked back to Evangeline, following her worried gaze to the backpack.
"Did you find anything else?" He asked, gaze slowly turning back towards Thierry.
"Not much else besides to the wallet, but we did find a rather large journal in the bag." Evangeline held her breath, her heart beginning to race as Thierry continued to talk. "Although, when we tried to open it up we found a lock. I'm assuming she's the only one with the key."
