Evangeline awoke with a deep hunger in the pit of her stomach. As her abdomen rumbled, she sat up in bed. Throwing back the sheets, she got to her feet. Cara was fast asleep in the crib beside her and through the open window shone the soft glow of the moonlight. Not knowing how long she had been asleep, Evangeline realized that it had been awhile since she last ate. Maybe she could slip downstairs without causing too much of a commotion.
Tip toeing towards the door, she cracked it open just enough to find Elijah asleep in the hallway. His back was against the wall as he sat upright, his long legs taking up the majority of the walkway. Evangeline stood frozen, contemplating whether or not she wanted to venture out with the possibility of waking him. When she felt the twinge of hunger again, she had already made up her mind. Slowly and ever so carefully, she stepped around the sleeping original. She could hear her heart pounding mercilessly in her ear as she stepped over his legs, finally finding herself free and at the edge of the staircase.
After quickly slipping into the kitchen and grabbing a blood bag, she made her way back up the stairs. As she reached the top, her heart dropped when she noticed Elijah had awoken. He was still in the same position, staring off into space. The second she reached the hall, he turned to spot her, his eyes softening.
"Evangeline," He spoke, his voice sounding exhausted as he stood to greet her.
Evangeline didn't respond, simply brushing past him and gripping the doorknob to their room. Before she even had a chance to open it, Elijah was in between her.
"Hey, hey," He whispered quietly. "What's going on? Did I do something to upset you? If I did, I'm immensely sorry."
Finally turning to face him, Evangeline met his brown eyes as he stared at her worriedly.
"When were you planning on telling me that you killed my mother?" Her voice was quiet but sharp. "Or were you just not going to?"
"I-uh," Elijah stammered, his eyes widening. "Evangeline, please give me a chance to explain."
"No," She replied sternly, pushing past him and closing the door.
Standing with her back against the door and holding her breath while she waited to see if he would leave, Evangeline sighed when she finally heard the sound of his feet on the floor as he retreated down the hall. Walking back towards her bed, she set the blood bag down on the nightstand before turning back to put to refresh the sound barrier. However, seconds before she cast the spell, she heard angry whispers. She caught Elijah's voice along with Rebekah and Freya's, pausing momentarily to listen in.
"She knows about what happened to her mother." Elijah sounded somber as Evangeline listened through the floor.
"You don't mean..." Rebekah gasped. "She knows what you did?
