10 years earlier....
A small child ran throughout the halls of a cottage in the woods. Her tiny feet pattered against the hardwood floors, and the sound of her laughter echoed off of the walls. The young child, a little girl of about seven, was giggling madly as she ran from her mother, attempting to win at yet another game of hide and seek. The girl scampered through the confined kitchen, hiding behind the drapes that lay on either side of the bay window. She stood silently, trying to hold her composure as the sounds of her mother's footsteps became louder and louder.
"My darling, Evangeline! Where have you run off to?"
The girl, Evangeline, giggled, slapping a hand over her mouth in order to keep herself quiet.
"Hmmm...." Her mother wondered aloud as she stepped into the kitchen. "I wonder where she could've gone."
Evangeline stood quietly, hearing the door to the pantry creak open and her mother muttering about not finding her there. After a few moments, her mother declared her defeat, and Evangeline popped out from behind the curtain excitedly.
"Here I am, Mama!"
"Oh my goodness! Look how clever you were! I would have never found you!" Her mother smiled brightly, opening her arms for Evangeline to run into them.
The young girl gave her mother a tight hug.
"Mama, can we play again?"
"I think we've done enough for today, baby. But I promise, I will play with you again tomorrow after your lessons, okay?"
"Okay, Mama."
Evangeline's mother brushed back a piece of her daughter's unruly brown hair.
"Now, let's go get ready for bed, and if you're quick enough, I'll tell you a bedtime story. How does that sound?"
"Okay!" Evangeline bounded off down the hall and into her bedroom to get ready.
Meanwhile, her mother, who was turning to follow Evangeline, was stopped by the ringing of her phone. Quickly picking it up and hushing her voice so her daughter wouldn't hear, Evangeline's mother answered the call.
"Hello?"
"They have a reason to return." The voice on the other line replied shakily.
"What?" Evangeline's mother gasped, her pulse quickening. "How do you know?"
"You know that werewolf girl Agnes caught wandering around the bayou?"
