STOP IT!I had an epiphany about HP a couple of weeks ago.
I was rewatching CS with M🥜 and PS, and when Harry shouted "Diagon Alley!" in the fireplace, I just realised: Hang on. That sounds like 'Diagonally'.
M🥜 looked at me strangely. 'Yeah. It's always been like that.'
It has? Oh...
But I had never heard it like that before. I guess it was a case of mind over ears-I expected to hear Diagon Alley, so I didn't hear anything else. In the book, he "opened his mouth and immediately swallowed a lot of hot ash. "D-Dia-gon Alley," he coughed." So I didn't expect to hear anything other than 'Diagon Alley'.
I had never noticed before. Something must've just clicked, I don't know, but there you go. A little 'BD First' for you. (Boy, that sounds weird out of context.)That moment you realised you've downloaded and practised the wrong Just Dance song for the past 5 hours...

" "Better Hufflepuff than Slytherin," said Hagrid darkly. "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin. You-Know-Who was one." " (HP&PS, pg 62)
This is told to Harry by Hagrid, and Ron in the movie, to show how bad the Slytherins are compared to the other houses.
But this is actually wrong.
At the time, Sirius Black was in Azkaban for helping Voldemort to kill Harry's parents. (Don't complain-I said, at the time. We'll get to the real traitor in the end.) Sirius was in Gryffindor when he was at Hogwarts.
Now, I can see Ron getting this wrong. Either Molly and Arthur didn't want to take away the security of 'All the bad people are Slytherins', because they are just kids after all, or the twins played another stupid trick on him and lied to him. Either way, I can kind of understand Ron not knowing. But Hagrid?
Hagrid was there that night! He saw Sirius there, and even borrowed his bike! And if he's been the groundskeeper for the 50 years since the chamber had been opened, he would have seen the Maruders growing up. He would have known that Sirius was James' best friend and in Gryffindor, not Slytherin, Gryffindor.
And Hagrid was saying it to James' son. Bit of a bugger to forget about his dad's best friend, and Harry's godfather, who ended up betraying them! But what if he was thinking, 'Well, can't tell 'im 'is godfather was the one who killed 'em."?
Well, if he was thinking that, why mention it at all? He could have just said "Better Hufflepuff than Slytherin. You-Know-Who was one."
He knew who he was lying to (And a big fucking lie it was-Harry's own family history! [Which Harry would have found out if he ever did research on his family! There was bound to be a least 1 newspaper clipping of the Potters' murder. Why, Harry? Why were you so fucking dense and not research your own parents? I mean, really, I would have wanted to know something about them if I went 10 years without my parents. Yet you just ask people about them. Jesus, Harry.]).
Hagrid could have easily also said "most were Slytherins" but he didn't. Not as comforting, I'll admit, but at least not a full-blown lie.Of course, later we find out Sirius was innocent, that someone else betrayed the Potters to Voldemort...
But he was still in Gryffindor. All the arguments are still valid with him. (Except the godfather bit. Thank Merlin for that, eh?)
I'm talking, of course, of the evil little git, Peter Pettigrew. 🐀
