I hope everyone is good and well, and all that jazz. It's 2018, people!!
God, that feels so weird to type/write. I actually did put 7-1-17 on the title, then I was like... Hang on, that looks weird. Wait! I know what it is. Mirrored! 7117! Nope, that's not-Oh. Wrong year. 😅It's terrifying to think Millennials will be able to drink and vote this year. Children who were born in the new millennia will become adults. That shit is scary.
The world will be run by Grumpy Cat soon.Seeing how I was confused on numbers, I thought I would use numbers as the chapter subject, and answer one of the most burning questions.
The answer to life, the universe, and everything.
It's 42.Okay, so, to explain:
In HItchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a race of "hyperintelligent pan-dimensional beings" built a super computer called Deep Thought because they wanted to know the answer to "life, the universe, and everything!"
Deep Thought responded that it would take seven and a half million years. So they waited as DT calculated, and seven and a half million years later, they came back to find out what the answer was.
She replied "42."
That didn't make sense. That was the answer to life, the universe and everything? But what was the Ultimate Question that 42 answered?
"Well, you didn't ask me that."
So DT builds a computer to answer what the question was, to which the answer is 42.
So basically, this whole series is based on 2 things:
-Towels
-The number 42The 25th of May is Towel Day, the international celebration day of HHGG. On this day, you must carry your towel with you, because you never know when you might need it.
The book is a lot of nonsense, and it is an acquired taste, kind of like Alice in Wonderland (the book, not the movies. The movies actually make a lot of sense). But if you like that style of book, go for it.
So, here are some of my theories on what the question is that the answer is 42.
(If the question is actually answered in the books, please tell me because all I can remember is Arthur finding the letter tiles. And I haven't read Mostly Harmless, so if it's in that, tell me that, too.)First:
One Arthur Dent suggested himself, that I think is a spendid question-
"How many roads must a man walk down?"Second:
"What is 7x6?"Third:
"How many minutes would it take to 'dig your way to China'?"
This is more 'I just stumbled upon 42 in a YouTube clip' than an actual answer (or is that question?)
But it would take 42 minutes to dig from one side of the Earth to another in one go.
Interesting, right?Fourth:
"Math."
Now, this isn't a question, but hear me out.
M=13
A=1
T=20
H=8
13+1+20+8=42Fifth:
The question to which the answer is 42... is "What is the point of 'Life'?"
Here, we draw from Japanese language. (And also Soul Eater.)
To summon Shinigami-sama from a mirror, Maka writes 42-42-564 on the mirror. "Whenever you want to knock on Death's door."
Now, this may seem like just random numbers to someone, after all, 564 have no meaning whatsoever.
But, if you know Japanese, you'll be able to figure out why Maka wrote 42.
Because in Japanese, 4 is Si and 2 is Ni.
That looks familiar...
ShINIgami.
Shinigamis are Gods of Death, as shown in Death Note by Ryuk.
So, we could say 42 is a direct link to 'Death'. So if Death is the answer, what is the question that 'Death' answers?I believe the Ultimate Question is 'What is the point of life?'
The answer is '42', in other words 'Death'.
It makes sense that death is the answer to life, as what is the meaning of life if there is no end to it? We live our lives in fear of death, and yet we cherish life because it will end sooner or later. Death is the end of life, and thus the meaning to and for it.
It is cryptic, yes, but after all, humans were never meant to just receive the meaning of life. They had to work for it.424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242424242-
PS: *ducktapes mouth shut and hands together*(Question: How many times did I write '42' above? If you get it right, you'll get 10 house points.)
PS: Why am I the one who has to do this? Why can't Moustachio do it?
M🥜: *in background* Because I know that would happen, and so, stayed far away.
PS: Ok, well, I guess I'll have to publish this, because if I don't she'll complain that she wrote all of it, and I didn't publish it on time.
BD: *muffled* Ag'in.
(That actually kinda happened. PS is a writer too, and she was basing a character off of her friends. I wrote my character's backstory in her word document, and didn't save it because I thought she was going to do stuff to the document. But she didn't. She just exited it, and when it asked her if she wanted to save it... She said no! Why would you do that if you just watched someone write in it?!
PS: Because I thought you would've clicked save!
So, consequently, I forgot my backstory when I had to rewrite it. [I mean, didn't forget all of it, but I had some pretty cool phrases in there, and couldn't remember them. So I wasn't cool anymore *sob*])Also, I'm going to be publishing weekly now!
Yay!
Because I am free Sundays, and... Just because I can, really. And I want to get more chapters out than what I am now.
When I first started Wattpad, and this book, it was just a little thing that I wanted to do, but it slowly took over my life. Instead of being on the internet twice a week to check emails and messages, I was on nearly every day, sometimes more than twice, just checking the views of my books and if books that I read have been updated. Since I'm on more, I might as well update more. :)
