*Warning, there is a bit of racism in a part of the rant, but it isn't mine! Rather, someone else's that I found annoying. If you don't like racism comments, I'll give you more warning.*
Like last time, this is a lot of the 'wrong' things, or idiotic things, or just plain things, that I've found on YouTube in the past.
A video about being proud to be in your Hogwarts house, whichever one it is. Now, that's all well and good. I applaud the YouTubers for doing such a thing.
But I was reading the comments, and one of them was
"I'm proud to be a sliverin! 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍"
Wow. Just... wow.
What made it worse?
-The house names had been plastered all over the screen in the actual video. You could see them most of the time!
-The 30 odd likes it had gotten.
-And finally, the comment... HAD BEEN EDITED!Improvisation. That is why lots of small YouTubers don't have everything, from pockets to bowties, to fucking cigarettes. They are not professionals. They do it because they have fun and they want to share their fun with everyone else.
They (usually) don't give a shit if you say they don't look like the character. You are 1 in a 100, so don't get pissy if they ignore your comment, because everyone else seems to be able to see the character that you can't. I'd say that's a problem with you, not the cosplayers.
The 'wrong' body type or ethnicity. No. Just no. They are having fun, and it's not like they can change it in a hurry. Besides, if you can't see beyond that 'problem,' then stop fucking watching the channel!
I can't count the number of comments about someone being too big, or someone cosplaying a white character when they're not, or vice versa, or someone being too short to cosplay a tall character.
They just want to show our love for the movie/anime/book. Stop hating on them because of it!When Denmark cosplayers call Norway "Norge".
Yes, it's spelt 'Norge', but not pronounced like 'blacksmith's forge'. It is pronounced 'Nor-gay'. So many people don't check their pronunciation.
And it's not like a little thing. Denmark cosplayers call him that all the time. To Denmark, it's not just a nickname, it's basically the only thing he calls Norway.
And some people make comments like 'Denmark's calling him Nor-GAY. Do you think he's hinting? LOL.'
No. No, he's not fucking hinting anything!
The reason it is pronounced 'Nor-gay'?
Because that is how Danish and Norwegian people say 'Norway'! That is the original name, in the original language.
Norge! Is Norwegian! For Norway!
Just like Danmark is Danish for Denmark and Ísland is Icelandic for Iceland!
(This is one of my TOP PET PEEVES about Hetalia cosplayers. So... *nervous laughter* I got really annoyed at this part, I had to have a time out to calm down. But I had fun yelling it out while writing it, that's for sure. I'm pretty certain the neighbours think I'm crazy, yelling at my imaginary friends. Eh. Just call me England.)When females cosplay a male character and don't bind their chest, you find so many idiotic comments like "haha, natsu has boobs. pity she doesnt have the vest." (An actual comment on a FT cosplay video that I found.)
Four problems with that comment.
1-I mean, really? That's all you're thinking when you're watching it? Not the brilliant acting or the fantastic special effects? Just that Natsu has a chest?
2-Fucking perv! I'm glad she doesn't have the open vest Natsu has-Because of people like you, fuckwit.
3-Of course Natsu does has a chest-It is a female cosplayer, after all!
4-Haha, Natsu, Pity and doesn't have a capital H, N, P and an '.)Cosplay videos being in a different language.
People complaining in the comments that "This would be better in English."
No. It wouldn't. It is perfect in their language. Being English would not change that.
Yes, most cosplay videos are in English, but there are some people (AKA Half of the world) who speak a different language. Most YouTube videos will have subtitles in their clips though, so before you rant in the comments about not being able to understand them, make sure you've got subtitles turned ON.
I've seen so many comments about 'How are we supposed to understand it when you're speaking a different language' and the youtuber/admin politely replying and saying, 'Um, have you got subtitles turned on? Because that would help.' Or when it's the 50th comment about it on that same video, the admin just goes, "Read the description" because they've actually changed the video's description for idiotic English speakers who can't work subtitles.
(I will admit, I have stopped watching cosplay videos halfway through because they are speaking a different language, I couldn't understand it, and there were no subtitles. But in that situation, there's nothing else I could really do. The videos were very much word orientated.)
Some people just can't speak a second language, or if they do actually attempt to speak English for their videos, they get razed because of their broken English. Now, one of these broken English comments was found on a Hetalia Germany and Prussia cosplay video. I myself didn't find their English broken, as they were saying German words throughout. That isn't broken English, that is their character. And really, their English was quite good, apart from all the Ws as Vs, but again, that is a Germanisation. Then, to find out that the cosplay group are from Germany, but ARE FLUENT in English...
That comment was made by an idiot.I have 2 YouTube channels, one with my friends, and my own.
We (plan to) do lots of Nyo!Talia, (or Fem!) versions because
A) We are girls. We know straight away how girls would react to things. It's a bit difficult for us to react, talk, think, etc as guys because, um, *spoiler alert* we're not.
B) It gives us more creative licence. Yes, we do base a lot of the Fem!s behavouir off of the original version, but it allows us to not be carbon copies of it. (A.K.A.-It hides our mistakes.)
C) Simple laziness. We can't be fucked wearing *cough, finding, cough* binders or cutting the wigs to the right hair length. It also stops comments like the "natsu has boobs" one above.
D) We need more Nyo!Talia in the world. We have actual canon character designs, and an audience, so why not?*WARNING. Racism ahead*
'White-washing' Commentors.
First, a bit of an explaination: A lot of the comments that inspired this little section came from a channel that cosplays a specific book series. As the series' characters are quite varied, (There are a lot of characters with different ethnicities) many of the cosplayers on the channel are different ethnicities as well. Most of them follow the book's set character design, however, there is one girl in particular that gets a lot of hate because she is a white cosplayer playing a non-white character.
The channel is diverse as fuck! There are literally only 6 white cosplayers in the (more than 20 strong) group, and one of them is the person who gets all the hate. So yes, she plays a non-white character. But they didn't have any more non-white friends, that character was her favourite and, despite her skin, she looks a lot like what everyone pictures her character as, going on the other (nicer) comments (And my own mind-image of her character).
People regularly say that this channel is one of the best of that series with the cosplayers being so in character it's scary. At least once, if not more, per video there will be a commentor saying "Wow! You have replaced my own image of him/her! You are my ---- now! Well done!"
And it's people that make the stupid comments like the one below that let the rest of us down. So, those comments. You know the ones-"This character is African in the books, but the person who's cosplaying her is white. Stop white-washing her! You should have an African person play an African character!"
I mean I can see where they're coming from, there are a lot of people who do deliberately white-wash characters.
But I still have so many problems with these kind of comments.
If it's a cosplay group in England, do you really think they will just happen to have an African friend that wants to join in with the group? Chances are most of their friends are English, simply because... well, people in England are usually English, and not many people just happen to be the one person they're missing, PLUS like the exact thing that the group is cosplaying.
So despite the 19 odd other people on this channel that are the right ethnicity, you aim for the odd one out? What, you don't see they took the time to try to match everyone with their characters, and just didn't have enough? No one should give a shit about her skin because the personality and reactions are what count. It doesn't matter if she is or isn't white. As long as she's doing the character well, it fits her. If she is acting like that character, you can't say she shouldn't be.
They didn't deliberately chose to make the white girl play a non-white. The fact that you're 'calling them out' on it, is just a reflection on your own twisted views. You drawing attention to the fact she's white means that YOU are the racist one here. You saying she shouldn't be white because the character is brown is like saying she shouldn't be brown because the character is white. That second part is racism, thus the first part is racism. So although you're 'standing up' for all the poor mis-cosplayed African characters in the world, you're actually doing the thing you got pissed off at in the first place-Therefore, shut up.
And lastly, but certainly not least-Would you prefer she painted herself black, to fit the character better? Would you not then raze her for her 'blackface' and misrepresenting the race and culture?
Fuck off, dude. Nobody wants your stupidness near them. It might be catching.*Racism, and YouTube rants, over.*
